Thank you for all the fab info balletmademum
We have done a couple of big shows in our nearest City so have no issues with commitment.
Also doing the chaperone role
I've dropped them a line just before the suggestion on here - fingers crossed.

Hi Spanner - i was the last person to post on the thread LOL
I'm still trying to understand the age requirements vs dates for application / audition / show.
Even if my friend doesnt follow thru with this, i'm pretty sure we will be but with a late summer birthday, events are often 'just missed' like the summer school in London this year, we were told NO as 4 days too young thankfully a couple of other places have been pretty pragmatic about being that close to the borderline

A friend of mine has asked me to post the following questions (I have an interest too but for the future) as she doesn't have Internet access easily.
How do you get involved in the London children's ballet audition process?
Is the age taken at application, audition or for show date?
When and where do they do rehearsals?
Does cost much - costumes etc
And any other info greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

In that case I guess we can stop letter box watching until Newcastle letter are out at least

I didn't hear them say anything about email or letters at the Eastleigh one. Email would be super as we are 'ooop norf' for must of July. Can anyone confirm one way or other about this?

Thanks for all the replies! Lots of stuff to look at now

Hi all,
DS was telling me a friend has recently auditioned for Matilda in London - he is desperate to gain audition experience for shows, musical / Dance.
I was curious how people get to know what auditions are taking place - is there a website to look on or are they recommended (by the dance schools they go to etc)
I've searched and found lots of 'adult' auditions but nothing for juniors (he's 8, 9 in the summer hols).
any advice greatly recieved
(location - London / south)

thanks JLAEI - i think it stemmed from using heels but couldnt understand that as they use heels in Character work

My DD was picked for her school squa but we were told in no uncertain terms that ballet and gym do not mix
I wont hijack the thread but i've also heard ballet and tap dont mix - any thoughts appreciated

If it helps, we had an email acknologing recept then a few weeks later got the letter with session on it... that was for the Eastliegh Audition but assume its the same process?

Heard some confusing conversations yesterday I'm hoping someone can enlighten me
You can audition at any venue and if offered a class take classes at whichever venue you like?
This seemed confusing to me - if they offer x number of places out and nearly everyone then chooses the same one location surely you'd get a huge class and several small ones elsewhere?
Could a child audition at two different venues?

hey Ballet sister - we were there
lot less competitve than i expected and seemed quite calm

Hiya Spanner,
Yes i am aware of this, we are planning a big holiday next year and i'm consicous of trying our best not to conflict with anything if she isnt old enuf to audition for this (shes 8 this Aug) then i dont need to even look at dates etc
-
my DD is just starting to look at 'show' work and would love to audition for this... can someone tell me about the ages - what age can you audition from and is it the age on the audition date or the application date?
thanks in advance

As a result of all this i have now met an ex-JA and she is amazingly graceful - just cant see DD being like that LOL
Assume once the form is submitted, we get a confirmation, but do you know how long it takes for that letter to arrive?

Hi Bou, my daughter auditioned for JA at 'the point' in Eastleigh a few years back, when she was 8. It was a lovely experience which she really enjoyed. Lots of warming up and stretching going on outside before hand, but my daughter was happy to sit and watch the 'stretchers' putting their legs up by their ears!! Some parents were involved in the stretches and obviously knew what they were doing, I on the other hand had no clue on what was expected of them. My daughter was offered waiting list, but unfortunately a place never came up. She has just auditioned for Mid Associates which means going to London but once again had a lovely day, just awaiting the results of this now! Good luck xx
i think that will be us Nancy21!
Look fwd to reading about your results. do you have to wait long? where in london would you have to go?

I am not criticising you by the way, just saying be careful. I heard a saying once that I try to remember, be nice to everyone when you are on your way up. You may meet them again when you are on your way down.
Quite right, its not like me to be so horrid actually, and I feel really rather sad and cross at myself. I could come up with lots of 'reasons' but they would all be excuses really.
There are lots of amazing dancers out there, and as I said I have no expectations on the audition.
I'm content to be very very proud she's even been asked to fill in the paper work to try.
On the suggestions from everyone on here, we've had a big chat and DD is super chilled about it all which I think will make me feel same.
You're all amazing, thank you

great thanks for that info

read on another site, that the ones that are selected are often 'required' to attend workshops in London - any comments on this gratefully recieved - wondering if its just the London class children?
-
so sad to read about what can only described as bullying for being male in the dance areana - i hope he keeps it up and doesnt get pressured into stopping by the narrow minded others
i guess there are no other 'newbie form fillers' reading this post as yet... and i dont think i have any more questions at the moment - you've all been so helpful!
ps i've concluded that DD's hair apt this eve needs to be kept, but as little as poss taken off
-
Just a word of caution about referring to the girl known as "Princess" - this is an open forum and her mother or anyone else from your dance school might be reading.
Good luck with the audition. You'll find lots of advice here and you'll learn as you go along. :-)
yeah thanks - it did cross my mind but i'm not too worried as like was mentioned before there are a lot about and a lot of dance schools in the area and nothing has been said that i wouldnt say in the open if needed

dont know about any other classes - this is all new to me - up til the envelope arrived with DD at the end of class, we've been happily trundling along to weekly normal ballet / modern classes with the occasional comp to attend with a ballet solo...
any info on anything greatly recieved
Well, I've seen it all now...

yesterday whilst driving to get DD from school I saw a 'suited' man standing by the boot of his car, in a layby, removing his trousers - i had to double take as he was just stripping in broad day light!!
