  2. I have 2 DD who tap - one prefers split sole (Capezio) and the other full sole (Bloch). Both are oxford style with teletone toe and heel taps. Thankfully our dance teacher is happy for the girls to choose which they prefer and are comfortable dancing in. Shop around on line as they differ in price considerably.

  3. Purely practical on auditons....

... Soft blocks or canvas pumps for auditions?!! Advice please :) haven't had any experience with soft blocks but just something DD mentioned following summer school .....

.... Solos .... Pre warned is pre armed (!) can anyone say if any schools definitely require a solo for first round auditions ?

I'm sure my list will grow and these 2 might be the least of my worries in a couple of weeks time!!!

Thank you everyone for your patience with "audition newbies" .

  4. Dtadmin, we are waiting on the post for a degas Leo for auditions too! My daughter has one already and it's much admired everywhere she goes. She said it makes her feel special :) ... The only problem was she dared to grow!!!

  5. Yesterday's sharing of work was superb. How they learnt so much in such a short time was incredible. My daughter said this year was better than last .... If that's possible! Thanks go to ALL the staff of Elmhurst and Birmingham Ballet who gave everyone such a fantastic week. Well done to all who performed yesterday - I wanted to watch it again!

  6. Pointytoes - in the evening after a shower, she popped on some shorts and t-shirt as the accom block was quite hot. Last year they had a slumber party (pj's) on the first night so they got to meet everyone informally. There was also a "disco" later in the week which was relaxed clothes (not dressy!) and they watched a BRB workshop in the school theatre one evening so wore non-dance clothes. It was all casual clothes. Please feel free to ask any more questions as my daughter is happy to help - she is going again this year and can't wait! :)

  7. Pointytoes, my daughter went last year and got caught out not taking jazz pants - I guess I should have thought!!! I asked her if there was anything else not on the list that she thought was essential ...... SWEETS! She is not a sweet eater but in the evening she sat in the common room watching DVD's etc - shared sweets were a much needed sugar treat after a hard day!!!! They needed a "tracksuit" to get from the accom block to the studios and to pop on at meal times. She wore cropped leggings and a t-shirt as we did have a bit of a summer last year!

  8. Hi, I am researching colleges for 2014 entry studying Classical/Modern Ballet. I will be 16 years old and will have just taken my GCSE's. I think I am looking for a BA(Hons) course although I really don't know what other options I have besides vocational colleges. I have looked at courses at Central, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Rambert and Conservatore of Dance & Drama. Am I missing any? Any advice would be great please!! Thank you so much :)
