I'm applying for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland's Modern Ballet course for Sept. 2015 entry. As the application is done through CUKAS, you have to write a 4000 word personal statement    

 

Could those who have applied to RCS/have experience of writing personal statements for dance give any advice on what is important to include?

 

And is the personal statement really that important for this kind of course where so much is based on talent, physicality etc. at audition?

I have for sale a brand new Dans-Ez leotard C133GLB, with all tags on and still in its plastic bag. Its a size Small and in the colour 'Prune'. It's a low back camisole leotard with an adjustable gather.

 

It cost £23.95 new, but I would be happy to sell it for £10 + postage.

 

Only selling it because it's too short for my body but annoyingly I missed the online returns period!

The only thing I wasn't sure about when searching the performance database was the difference between a 'work' and a 'production'?

Im studying the A-level dance question 'Choreograph a solo based on The Royal Ballet 1956 –1977' and I'm finding it hard to find a list of the choreographers they worked with and the ballets they performed during this time period - can anyone help? Thanks!

Is there so much pointe work in the 14+ summer school that you're likely to need two pairs?

I own sweatpants but I wear them for lounging around my house and travelling to/from dancing, I wouldn't dance in them.

Are there any items not on the list for the 14+ summer school that people would recommend taking?

I've just tried this and didn't have difficulty doing the stretch, but it was quite painful up the backs of my thighs. Is this normal or would it indicate tension?

Heard that someone who auditioned earlier this year is being allowed to audition again. Worth asking/applying.

Do you know if this person has a special circumstance Ribbons? I'd love to give it another go!

Has anyone attending the Elmhurst senior ss had any information emailed to them yet? They said it would be sent after the deposit deadline passed which was a while ago now.

Thanks for the suggestions, I hadn't even heard that Scottish Ballet had free videos! I'll have a look

Financially it is not possible for me to take any more ballet classes at the moment but I'm really keen to do everything I can to get stronger and more flexible. I thought it might be a good idea to buy some Pilates/strengthening/stretching DVDs targeted at dancers which I could do at home to supplement my classes.

Would people be able to suggest some good ones they have tried to me?

I'm hoping I might be able to do the Bristol Russisn Ballet Sunmer School, which is non-audition, but it depends how much money I make from my summer job haha!

I do all the pointe work required for Advanced 1 but I've only been en pointe for 1 year, I guess my ankles might not be strong enough to handle advanced repertoire?

Course A for 15-19 asks for them to be studying RAD Advanced 1 or equivalent, with 3 years of pointework for girls.

I'd rather they did just look at photos rather than asking for certain grades, I study Advanced 1 however I have not yet been en pointe for 3 years so it put me off applying for ENBS course.
