  1. We went yesterday to take a look around the student accommodation My dd and her friend loved Liberty plaza, staff very welcoming, facilities excellent it’s a little bit further out but in a great location and we all decided Liberty house St. John street was very compact and not right for them.

IQ Paris Gardens currently you have to be 18 but I spoke to them this morning and this is being looked into as central is moving next door they should have an update by the end of the week, also it’s a bit more expensive.

My DD went to this summer school age 16 a couple of years ago and found it an excellent all round experience. She stayed in the recommended hostel several km away and travelled in by tram daily. She went alone and soon made friends and is still in touch with some of these girls. There were at least 60 other dancers staying in the accommodation and she was in a room of 4. Both in the accommodation and on the course the dancers were grouped by age.Students were asked to declare if they were interested in full time training at the school and several offers were made. There was a mix of classical and contemporary work.Somewhere in the balletcoforum archive will be my review of this course at the time.

    Thanks Celb that’s very encouraging

  3.  Thanks BlueLou,

My feelings exactly that is helpful though what you have said hopefully central latest start time would be 3/4pm so should be finished around 6pm at the latest.

For RCS it’s easier for us to fly up during half term and they have advised the auditions generally take place in the afternoon,  but not booking anything until confirmed. 😔

  4. The Hammond Easter Dance Intensive Course

    10th, 11th and 12th April 2019

Our Dance Intensive Easter course gives children aged between 9 and 15 years the opportunity to participate in Contemporary, Jazz and Commercial dance workshops. The three-day course, led by The Hammond’s artistic faculty, culminates in a performance for family and friends. This course is subsidised by the Department for Education and over sixty children from the school’s locality attend each year.

The fee for this course is £85

Please contact anthea.garratt@thehammondschool.co.uk to register your interest.

  5. Hi peanut68

This year for NYB has rolled from summer school onto The Cresent and then finishing with the London Gala on the Sunday evening I think personally it works better as we know that we need to block out those two weeks, it used to go over three weeks so fitting everything around it was a pain. Unfortunately there is no option for the children to stay after the summer school, so parents book hotels nearby when at The Crescent, before the summer school was held in Tring then performances were in Tunbridge Wells or Guildford, then followed by the Gala at the beginning of September.

My dd has been fortunate to have been involved with NYB for many years and loves it, she has made lots of friends, the performances are of a high standard, the costs involved are a lot but it’s definitely worth it!

If you can come up and watch one of the performances, feel free to pm me if you want any further info 😊

  7. Just had the following email 😊

    Dear All,

Thank you so much for auditioning for the NYB this season.  We really hope you enjoyed your audition.

We just wanted to let you know that you will hear the outcome of your audition by Friday 16th March 2018, by email from info@nyb.org.uk.  It is a good idea to add this email to your contacts to help this email arrive in your inbox rather than into your junk/spam folders.

    Have a good weekend.

    Kind regards,
    Katie

  8. Hi Bluelou

They are really quick at getting back to you, I’ve booked dd onto the 2nd week she will be 15 in March, the only thing I was surprised at when completing the online application form it doesn’t ask for the current dance examation/level , but did read this on the website

students should be working at approximately Advanced Foundation level, or above, in ballet to benefit fully from the course.

On the first day teaching staff will observe students as they participate in classes and stream them into groups appropriate to their level. The purpose of this is to ensure everyone gets the most out of the course and is taking part in activities appropriate for their experience.
