  1. I think there are a good few previous threads on this a while back: Dance Training Abroad & also Vocational Schools in the USA are two which I vaguely remember. I guess it depends on when you'd be looking  - post 16? or before then, as to which schools could be suitable. Hope this helps!

  2. I believe in the past, offers have been made to those on the waiting list by email, a few days after acceptances have to be confirmed. Fingers crossed for those waiting. Places do come up at Elmhurst, so keep positive!

  3. A friend of mine studied dance at University of Surrey (Roehampton Institute) many moons ago. I think it's now called Roehampton University and dance still appears to be big there. I have no recent knowledge though, but maybe worth a look.

  4. There was a thread called 'pointe shoe help' a few months back. Sorry, I don't know how to post the link here, but it might be useful to search back. There were at least a couple of pages with lots of advice. DD also had Grishko 2007M and they were dead after 2 classes. We're now on the hard shank and 2 weeks in, they're still good. Good luck!

  5. I have one. (I presume it's the 1st position one - white, with 'The Royal Ballet School' in blue on the back?) DD left JA's 2 years ago. I ended up folding the gusset over by 1 inch and hand sewing across, as it was still too long in the body for her. She refused to wear it, and made do with her size 2! So, it's actually never been worn. I've just undone the stitches and all you can see across the gusset is a faint fold. PM me if you're interested.

  6. Hi amos73,

We have found YDA to be really caring and nurturing. It is a really small school, but there are also afternoon/evening classes with WLSD, so the students do know a lot of people. We have found the ballet teaching to be excellent and there are lots of opportunities to perform. There are usually only about 6 or 7 girls in each year, so they do get a lot of attention. Of course, there aren't quite the same number of academic subjects on offer as there would be in a non-vocational school, but for us, the emphasis was to get really good training alongside decent GCSE's. Do PM me if you have any more questions.

  7. Hi SDM,

My DD was at Tring a couple of years ago, and from memory I think her lilac leotard was supplied through Dancing boutique in Tunbridge Wells. They were very helpful, as I got the sizing wrong and had to send the original one back! But, you should receive a letter with all the details, so double check, just in case.

Congratulations to your DD. Tring was a really enjoyable experience for my DD, and the staff were very friendly.

  8. Huge congratulations to the cast of 120 children who performed the Nutcracker at the Bloomsbury Theatre last weekend.

The hard work that went into the 5 performances paid off, and they were a joy to watch. Darren Parish (Drosselmeyer) and Thomas Snee (Prince) guested, giving the pupils a chance to dance alongside professional dancers. Fabulous!

  9. I've got a book at home 'Nutrition for the Dancer' by Zerlina Mastin. It's available on Amazon I think, about £12. It has loads of really useful info, for male and female dancers, as well as recipes, and nutritional snack ideas too. I think it even breaks the day down into number of hours you dance, and the amount of fuel you need based on your weight too.

  10. The re-emergence of this thread reminds me to ask: has anyone seen Love Tomorrow? Only released this month and I believe it had a premiere at Sadlers Wells though I haven't noticed it being in any cinemas. It stars ENB's Arionel Vargas. I thought it sounded fun but the only newspaper review I have seen was not at all good - along the lines of another turkey of a dance film.

Try this link to show you where Love Tomorrow is being screened before Christmas, and a couple of dates in January.
