Yes. I will be interested to see what Mr Bracewell makes of Basilio.

I’d recommend him in Swan Lake - I adore his Siegfried and have seen him in this role quite a few times!! 🤣

I agree Bracewell is such a musical, lyrical, soulful dancer who seems to dance from his heart and, as such, really tugs at the heartstrings. However, having seen his cheeky, boy-next-door portrayal of Franz in Coppelia with Akane, I have no doubt he will also win hearts as Basilio. I can’t wait!

I saw that performance too and loved it overall but, being honest, I'd say that for me the magic came from the three amigos partnership of Corrales, Sambe and Hay, along with Matthew Ball's fabulous 'entitled public schoolboy Tybalt. I loved Hayward and Bracewell in Romeo and Juliet Beyond Words, ditto both of them in Dances at a Gathering and Swan Lake. Goodness, Bracewell will be very busy if he is to partner Kaneko, Hayward, Nunez and also, now, O'Sullivan on a regular basis.

In addition to all the wonderful partnerships being cultivated with William (and I too love them all especially Kaneko/Bracewell), I do hope room can sometimes be found for Akane on his long list.  They were outstandingly beautiful together in Swan Lake and also heart-warming in Coppelia. I would love to see them together again at some point.

yes, think Cinders won't be coming to the ball sadly, and we have to wonder whether the scenario of Bayadere is going to survive in these times. Would love to see Symphonic Dances (with Symphonic Variations and Symphony in C? - what a triple THAT would be!!)  as we missed out recently due to lockdowns

Yes please - sign me up for every performance of that triple bill!😀

IWilliam Bracewell was dynamite as Troyte ... oh wow, what a comeback!

Oh fabulous!!!!!!  I've been waiting to hear that William was back, and keeping everything firmly crossed.   I'm going tonight and now even more excited.  Thank you, Jan, for being the bearer of such glad tidings! :)  Also, presumably looking good for Coppelia too - again keeping everything crossable crossed!

  5. Thanks very much, Jenny. I can also be a bit iffy about choreography that’s too modern, but was impressed by the bit of rehearsal of The Cellist that was streamed on World Ballet Live. Also, for me, music is absolutely key and, from what you say, this sounds as though, musically, it will be right up my street. I’ve booked both casts and am now very much looking forward to it. Also very interested to hear that a large-ish cast will be involved as well as the obviously impressive casting of main roles!

Has anyone ever been to a mixed opera and ballet gala at the Royal Opera House that worked? It has always been my experience that one part fizzled out and depressed the atmosphere. The successful galas have, in my experience, been either opera or ballet. Can anyone point to one which disproves my point?

Yes - the gala that was arranged at very short notice in order to raise funds following the Tsunami in 2004.  This remains the best gala I've been to.  It had a wonderful mix of many favourites from both opera and ballet, as well as some very poignant pieces/films, and the general overall feeling that we were all there  (both performers and audience), very much pulling together, to try to help a little in such a disastrous situation.   (Otherwise, like you, I never feel that the balance is right and they never quite work - although I keep going in the hope that "this one" might be different).
