  1. Oh yes - incredibly excited for that too! Des Grieux is a role that would seem to be absolutely made for him.
  2. I agree Bracewell is such a musical, lyrical, soulful dancer who seems to dance from his heart and, as such, really tugs at the heartstrings. However, having seen his cheeky, boy-next-door portrayal of Franz in Coppelia with Akane, I have no doubt he will also win hearts as Basilio. I can’t wait!
  3. This tiny detail alone is already making me ridiculously excited!😆
  4. Two questions, Jenny: 1. Are the sets and costumes beautiful (no need for detail - just overall impression)? 2. Which cast did you see? If you don’t feel you should answer - no problem! 😊
  5. The jester has a relatively large role in the ballroom scene as well as appearing in the trying on of the glass slipper. And me too with regard to Laura and the fairy godmother. I can never get enough of her dancing …
  6. I agree - would have loved James Hay to be Akane’s prince. I do hope he’s also dancing one of the fairy cavaliers as well as a stepsister. I also remember him being a wonderful jester last time around.
  7. In addition to all the wonderful partnerships being cultivated with William (and I too love them all especially Kaneko/Bracewell), I do hope room can sometimes be found for Akane on his long list. They were outstandingly beautiful together in Swan Lake and also heart-warming in Coppelia. I would love to see them together again at some point.
  8. I think it might be the pdd from Coppelia (seem to remember seeing that somewhere but not 100% certain).
  9. It’s also being screened at Vue cinemas (with an encore screening on Sunday, 6th November which might help with your Coppelia clash, Jan).
  10. Wonderful! That’s very good news indeed. Thanks very much, Mona.
  11. Does anyone have any inkling whether the third cast (ie Takada and Campbell) will actually be dancing this, given that I think both may have been injured fairly recently? I have a ticket for this cast and am really hoping all is well but also rather wary since there has been no further reference to them since the casting was announced.
  12. Yes please - sign me up for every performance of that triple bill!😀
  13. Cinderella (however unlikely that may be), Fille, Two Pigeons, Coppelia, La Bayadere, Onegin and Manon. Requiem, In the Night, Symphony in C, and would love to see Liam Scarlett’s Asphodel Meadows and Symphonic Dances. 24 Preludes would also be very welcome!
  14. This is truly awful news. Heartbreaking for his family and friends and so sad for those of us who loved his work.
  15. Since Month in the Country, Cinderella and Giselle (all of which would be very high on my list!) have all already been ‘taken’, I’m going for La Bayadere (sorry Capybara - I know I’ve sneakily managed a few choices!! 😊)
  16. Oh fabulous!!!!!! I've been waiting to hear that William was back, and keeping everything firmly crossed. I'm going tonight and now even more excited. Thank you, Jan, for being the bearer of such glad tidings! Also, presumably looking good for Coppelia too - again keeping everything crossable crossed!
  17. Thanks very much, Jenny. I can also be a bit iffy about choreography that’s too modern, but was impressed by the bit of rehearsal of The Cellist that was streamed on World Ballet Live. Also, for me, music is absolutely key and, from what you say, this sounds as though, musically, it will be right up my street. I’ve booked both casts and am now very much looking forward to it. Also very interested to hear that a large-ish cast will be involved as well as the obviously impressive casting of main roles!
  18. So maybe Sambe with Hayward and James Hay with O’Sullivan? I’d be very happy with this scenario (I’ve booked for both these casts).
  19. Yes - the gala that was arranged at very short notice in order to raise funds following the Tsunami in 2004. This remains the best gala I've been to. It had a wonderful mix of many favourites from both opera and ballet, as well as some very poignant pieces/films, and the general overall feeling that we were all there (both performers and audience), very much pulling together, to try to help a little in such a disastrous situation. (Otherwise, like you, I never feel that the balance is right and they never quite work - although I keep going in the hope that "this one" might be different).
  20. Extremely disappointed about the new Scarlett and revival of the Ratmansky. At least it mentions the Scarlett in a future season but with no such promise of the Ratmansky, so I hope it is still planned to schedule a revival.
