  1. Does anyone have any first hand experience of post 16 vocational training at  The School of BTUK? As it’s relatively new, there seem to be less views available on this forum compared to the more established schools.

Would welcome any information available please?

When my dd auditioned for 6th form last year, the emphasis for the solo at Tring was to do something that you are relaxed and confident in and can perform well.

They like you to do your own choreography as it shows your creativity but it’s not a problem if you don’t. My DD is very classical but did a lyrical solo, some did ballet though. Most seemed to do modern/jazz or lyrical/contemporary.

Did your dd enjoy the Tring audition last year? Is she there this year or did she choose an alternative vocational school?

Hi, my dd has also got a tring audition for 6th form I can’t answer your question but dd is anxious about the 1 minute solo in preparation how hard should it be my dd will do ballet but should it be on pointe or flats and would a variation from a istd ballet exam be ok or should it be a more complex variation from a ballet eg sleeping beauty? Thanks

I think my dd will be tweaking one of her competition solos but she won’t be doing a ballet piece. I’m really not sure what they’re expecting though!

Dans-Ez D911 is a very flattering camisole leotard with high cut legs and an adjustable neckline so it can be plain or gathered. Not sure if it is available in colours other than black or purple though?

It has served DD well as an exam leotard and audition leotard as it isn't too low at the back and the high cut is at the hip bones so it doesn't look overly high-cut in a 1980s Jamie Lee Curtis fashion....

Dans-Ez D911 looks like a very flattering cut. Any idea where to buy it? Out of stock at Dance Direct and style not showing on the Dans-Ez website. I wonder if it's been discontinued?

So, where is everyone going this year, apart from RBS and YBSS? Dd (15) is at Northern Ballet in Leeds and Ballet West in Scotland (weeks 2 and 3). Really would have loved to have done Central and/or Rambert as these are her 1st choice schools for applications this Autumn, but dates/accomodation/logistics proved too challenging for us!

My daughter (16) is considering Northern Ballet and Ballet West. Do you have any experience of either?

Both my DDs were under 18 when they started. They had to have finished school though...

Thanks afab. So do they need specific academic qualifications i.e. A'levels or equivalent? I assume that's not possible if they were under 18

LSC is a wonderful school. I believe the extra money is really worth it. Some students do work at the weekend/evenings but the timetable is so full that it's sometimes difficult to achieve. The alumni are everywhere. I really appreciate the way students are treated, the choices they are given with the many options offered. The reputation of the school is also very good which gives them opportunities to do different projects.

As you know, I have 2 DDs there and they have both grown so much not only in their dancing and singing but also in the way they see their professional future. LSC accompanies them in that journey. The overall feeling in the school is also very healthy and students can build long lasting friendships... I couldn't recommend LSC more even though there is very little money left in our wallet at the end of the month...

Do you know if LSC take students at 17 or do they have to be 18?

  9. Dear All

If anyone is still looking for a Summer School. We are running 2 weeks of incredible, exclusive, live-in International Summer Schools - Principals Weeks at our Exclusive Dance Retreat in Kent, England.

We only take 12 guests and have some of the best teachers and dancers on the planet coming to teach for us. Plus we hit the West End for a show in a Limo, and go on location for Professional Photo Shoot. We are not the cheapest summer school, but think we offer value for money based upon the time our guests get with our guests teachers.

All teaching for a full day Edward Watson MBE, Hope Keelan, Anitia Young, David Yow and Ricardo Cervera. You should know who they all are !!

Please email me if you want more info nicola@woodsidedanceretreat.com and find us on FB and Instagram.

    Kind regards

    Nicola Moriarty xx

    Hi Nicola

Is it just classical ballet that you teach in your summer school or other styles also?

    Many thanks
