A statement from Elmhurst Ballet School:

It is with very heavy hearts that the entire school community at Elmhurst Ballet School confirms its summer run of shows - including the streamed performance - will not go ahead this year.

As Birmingham is a Covid-19 'enhanced response area' and the shows were scheduled to take place in the Elmhurst theatre within the school complex, it has become increasingly difficult to safely present the performances of Proxemics and Elevate.

After many months of unstoppable activity, online learning due to Government guidelines and school closures, three lockdowns and three returns to some sort of normality, the school’s summer term 2021 must sadly come to an abrupt end.

To present two programmes of dance at the end of an academic year whilst still navigating Elmhurst through a pandemic is no mean feat, and although the school is unable to showcase the talents of its final year students of Elmhurst Ballet Company and the young dancers of its Lower and Upper School, it is determined to find ways to present the new and exciting works in the near future.

Elmhurst Ballet School would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has sent messages of support over the last few days.

I read somewhere ballet central will be performing in Birmingham on Thursday, I do hope it goes ahead fingers crossed

I’m so sorry to hear about your DC’s personal experience. We haven’t experienced anything like yours as yet. Teachers have been there be via email as some gave recently been from the pro life/auditions etc so can empathise with them. But still doesn’t take the pain away from what they all endure to pursue their dreams.
I’m constantly checking out other dance reels second guessing my DD‘S but then trying to put it into context that it’s only a taster of what they can offer.  After-all nearly every graduate this year and last are in the same boat. Preferably the life boat and not The Titanic 🙏🏻🤞🏼

No career info given to students if they decide to come away from ballet, their only concern end of year shows & getting the year graduated!

  3. I’d advise continue with good associate program, summer schools, intensive courses instead of a yr 8 place at vocational school, audition at 16 for upper schools, from experience my dd who attended vocational school at 11 was at no more of an advantage at auditions at 16 then others who attended local dance schools/associate schemes. I’d say if your dd wants to audition for the experience that’s great, vocational lower schools do not always offer the ‘best’ training compared to intensive courses, competition experiences, summer schools etc. Good luck to your dd whatever she decides

I believe it’s because they have ‘core subjects’ so much of the training overlaps. It’s not a route we went down in the end as my daughter has always done ISTD syllabus work so it made more sense to continue this with teacher training.

I hope someone with more experience may see this to clarify but I’ve just found my email communication with them to confirm this is definitely what I was told (the email is from 2018)
