  1. Hi,

DD is 14 (15 in summer). She’s a SB and RBS associate, and wants to pursue full time training.

She loves her “regular” dance school and has built strong friendships and has progressed steadily. However, as she is becoming increasingly serious about ballet, we are questioning the importance of graded or vocational exams.

She has just taken her G5 and intermediate exams and passed both with distinction. From hearing from others, we think that if she were with a different school she would probably be doing higher levels… does the level you get to in graded/vocational exams have huge importance when applying for full time training? Should she be looking to get to a certain level by the time she is hoping to start full time training at age 17? Or will schools be looking for their own specific qualities and not so much on vocational level?

  2. Hi,

My DD has been with Scottish Ballet Mid Associates this past year and has been accepted on the associate programme for Royal Conservatoire of Scotland for 23/34. Ultimately her aim is to study the modern ballet degree at RCS…. I’m just wondering I anyone can shed any light as to why fees are SO much more at RCS (when worked out per hour) when the teachers seem to be the same as those at Scottish Ballet???

  3. Reputation is not particularly important to either of us.. I’d much rather she was happy and received quality training. She is slightly more swayed towards to schools she has heard about for the last few years.

Agree class size would be good to know- EFB are clear but I’m hoping someone can enlighten me about class sizes of the others?!

  4. Hello,

    First time posting!

My daughter is auditioning for part time programmes- she has been accepted at Edinburgh Festival Ballet and SMB. The Scottish Ballet auditions have been moved to July.

I have no experience of any of these programmes (she did an associate programme with another company we shall not talk about and didn’t particularly enjoy it). She (we) will need to make a decision about EFB and SMB before she’s even had the SB audition now- does anyone have any experience/knowledge of these programmes???

I’ve heard SB classes can be large? EFB have a maximum of 20 per class... but as they are new they obviously don’t have the presence/reputation of the other two...

I’ve also heard S-M B Company is very different to the dance company Sara-Maria Barton was involved with....

any thoughts/experience would be gratefully received!
