  1. It is so sad to read all these comments.the ballet/dance world is notoriously tough, but naively I thought/hoped things had improved and moved forward.

It seems there are both positive and negative views on all the top schools, but what makes sad reading is the very little progress from lower to upper school in all the schools! For a parent with a DD embarking on year 7 and investing so much this is very disheartening.

It is so hard going to all these schools, as they obviously show you the best and all the good!

I really would welcome any PM’s on any experience they may have, ideally

positive, but also things to look out for.

We are considering, RBS, Elmhurst, Tring and YDA.

  2. There seems to be lots of discussion on RBS, but does anyone have comparison for Elmhurst?

My DD is auditioning for year 7, and we get such a good feeling for Elmhurst but Royal has the name and prestige. I feel like Elmhurst is becoming more forward thinking and current, but I would like to understand if anyone has some comments based on experience?

I think it is really interesting looking at the statistics from these schools of how many from lower schools actually achieve upper schools and company roles after?

Waiting list for WL for DD... does anyone have any experience of this?

My daughter has also got waiting list. She is devasted she didn’t get a place but pleased it isn’t an outright no at the moment.

It is all part of life lessons and of the dancing world I suppose. All the finalists did so well to get into the final and even to get to the venue last week!!

I think she is feeling more upbeat now and ready for Elmhurst finals next week. She also has MDS audition for Tring. So fingers crossed.

well done to all the finalists, yes’s, WL and No’s. 😀

Any guesses on what time the office closes? I keep looking at my email but suspect in vain as I’m guessing we won’t hear now it’s past 5??

I think results are out! I’ve just got an email.

    fingers crossed all.

Thank you for replying - I’m a teensy bit worried about Tring interviewing mini pv as just this week I overheard her discussing Ballet future, fees and scholarship details with her piano teacher and how daddy wants “Joon to go into the light” (great grandma June is languishing is some comfort in a care home up North and may well outlive us all). There was a lot of warning coughing from me waiting outside.

Out of the mouth of babes...

I know my DD normally goes very quiet and shy in interview situations... so not sure how things will go and you never know what they will say :)

Assuming there are three WL pupils and three Associates in each year at SS looking at the average number of UK dancers offered places that would leave around 12 places for non RBS dancers in each year group. At 20% odds are not that great!  Would love to be corrected if anyone else’s intelligence can give a more accurate analysis.  As noted on the RBS SS course post hopefully this has opened out the opportunity for those who applied for Easter although I understand there is only one group per year as against two at SS.  Hope those going at Easter have a wonderful time and fingers crosssed for those waiting for SS offers.

My DD auditioned for RBS JA in year 5 for year 6 entry and before that applied for the summer school.

We were shocked that she was accepted to the SS and then a place at JA’s as these were our first applications for anything RBS.

So DD was accepted for SS not as a JA, so there is hope, we also know someone else who got SS who was not a JA.

DD was forunte for Spring Program too and this time a JA. I still am not sure how they assess just on photos though, you can drive yourself crazy trying to second guess!

fingers crossed to all for this years SS!

Hope everyone had a good time at YDA finals today! Good luck!

Can anyone tell me - at the Tring preliminary audition for Y7 Dance are the candidates interviewed? Or is that only at the later funding audition?

Yes my DD was interviewed. There were not preliminary auditions like the other schools.  It was one audition and then you were told if you had a place or not/and/or if you were invited to audtion for an MDS funded place.

We were are YDA today and were quite impressed.

    good luck to all!

Last year at Royal finals they told us they had approx 1000 applicants (including international applicants) which was a record number, which is why they did the audition over 2 days for the first time, as I believe they took approx 60 to finals (and they’d normally only take about 40 I was led to believe)

Elmhurst finals there was about 40 invited to finals I believe but perhaps about 35 there on the day as some had already accepted a place at Royal x

It is over 2 days again this year.so did you get results before Elmhurst finals? X

Ispend828, that's the sort of number I had in mind. There seem to be around 25 to 30 in the lower year groups. It wasn't a precise figure we were given on induction, more of you've done very well to get a place as for everyone of you here today there's at least 10 who didn't was the context. It's also clear they will only take people they want as evidenced by last year's late auditions after they hadn't awarded all the MDS funding in the normal auditions.

I was going to ask if anyone knows how many make it through to finals for year 7 girls WL and Elmhurst? I think at an audition insight day for Royal they said around 30-40, but if they had record numbers of applications then this could be more...

then it is roughly 12 who make it?

my DD was successful for spring program and it says on there that they can still audtion on the program. Do you think we will have to wait until April to get results?

wishing everyone good luck. I envy the grit and resilience these young children have to go through this all.

Is that a funding offer BG?

Offered a place and then as we qualify for MDS, that audition if we wanted it. So we didn’t pay the deposit for the place and went with the MDS audtion. My DD really wants Royal or Elmhurst so has to risk it.

Many congratulations to your DD. That is fantastic news. [ And welcome to the Forum] !

Thank you!! Shocked but so nervous for her, she really wants this but still more auditions to go through! Hopefully she will get her dream.

    so many talented children!
