Having been through all associates before and full time school prelims and finals I don't think you can at all make heads nor tails of it all. The only thing over thinking it does sleepless nights and stress.

Every school is different and every year is different.

My advice, take it all in your stride and don't get disheartened if it's a 'no'. It doesn't mean no forever, just a no this time round.

Totally agree.  I didn’t use You Tube this time so that I couldn’t be tempted into second guessing.  I’ve been down this path with one child already and know that it is impossible to guess what results will be for Associates or vocational school and there are surprises every year.  Good luck to everyone involved 🍀

How strict do you think they’ll be on the photos? We definitely didn’t get as good as her teachers could have got out of her :( I always feel guilt when I seem to have the key role in the application process 🤦🏼‍♀️ I just can’t see the tweaks!

Please don’t feel guilty.  You’re her Mum not her teacher.  You can only do your best.  They will see how she can dance from the videos and what her physique is like from the pictures.  It really is the best you can do at the moment and you shouldn’t beat yourself up for it.

I know of 2 girls who have got Year 5 places in London but agree the majority of places seem to be for Year 4!
Yay a whole month to drive myself crazy still 😂

At least there are some then.  Significantly smaller numbers than other years though I think 👍

It did seem odd (in a nice way) having other boys around. DS is always the only one in ballet. I am completely new to all this and so the following could be totally wrong but I seem to recall someone saying that they like the boys to all go to London when they get to y6 (or it might be MA). 😊

It's when they're MA's they mainly only offer London...

We are declining our Mids offer for London. My dd is going to vocational school. I do feel strongly that associate places should go to children who can’t go, for whatever reason, to vocational schools. I accept it’s a tough, competitive business but I still think we can support, encourage and drive our children forward and yet still consider the whole community of children who are just as committed to dance.

Congratulations to everyone who got places now and are on the swl. May it be good news for those waiting very soon. Xx

Also, it's lovely news that she got vocational school.  Where was she offered a place 👏👏👏👏👏🎉🎉🎉

  6. Anyone know whether offer letters contain information about whether your child has been awarded an MDS, or not?  DC has been prepped that if there is no MDS, for Elmhurst, then we wouldn't be able to accept anyway.  This is going to be a long week....

I always thought Year 6 was the “easiest” year to get in to as they have a separate class to the year 4/5s so there is more places available?

I know they can ask JAs to give up their place if they don’t think they are responding well to their training programme. Not sure how frequently this happens, but I know in one of my students classes a child left think it was a mutual decision between parent, child and RBS, so not assessed out per se, but they do seem to advise when they think it’s not suitable.

I genuinely don't really know which is the easiest.  However, I would have thought it would be better to join in Year 5 to make the most of the program.  And yet, there are many who've gone on to WL having joined in Year 6.  Probably, best to be guided by your dancing teachers and audition for every year, if the teacher thinks it's appropriate.  Particularly, considering how many no's the kids get.  If you want it, just keep knocking at that door 😝

  8. JA's don't usually get assessed out.  MA's are assessed each year and so can be.  The most common year, for entry, as a JA, is Year 5.  They are quite lengthy classes for Year 4 candidates really.  I would imagine this would probably mean that it is more difficult to get in at Year 6.  However, in my DC's JA's, I believe there were at least 5 that joined in Year 6.

    Hi ,

I Can perhaps help with both questions.

Last year there were approximately 30 pupils auditioning for year 7.

The current year 9 is one of the largest year groups.

I can’t comnent on availability of beds as some years have more pupils than others but Elmhurst seem to have the ability to find space if they need it and usually try to fill their MDS spaces.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you Pointy Toes.   Is that 30 boys, and girls, or just 30 girls?  It doesn't seem like that many.  I know I  am overthinking this and we should just turn up and see 🙈

Very sorry to hear that - I hope your DC isn't too upset.

Which year and audition centre were you at?

A friend of mine is still waiting to hear from the first London audition.

DC is fine.  Year 7, Manchester x
