  1. Hi. My daughter has just completed 5 years at DSS and is now in her first year at Central. When she auditioned at age 11, she hadn’t done any ballet exams or productions. Most of the other children had. It didn’t seem to matter. I think they are looking for confidence, musicality, sense of performance and enjoyment and a certain amount of physical aptitude. They seemed to all go over the basics again in first year. She needs to go in and enjoy it. My daughter had a fantastic 5 years at DSS.

  2. My daughter has just finished her 5th year at DSS. They do classical every day and a mix of other dance styles during the week ( modern, jazz, contemporary, tap etc..)Exams RAD ballet and ISTD modern. She’s really enjoyed her time there and is going on to Central School of Ballet in September. Everyone from the graduating class that auditioned was successful gaining a place for further study in a variety of schools- classical, contemporary, jazz, performing arts etc…I would say- strong classical base but they all come out with a good grounding of all styles.

Glad to see this as I think my DD is going to accept her offer from Central and we were just starting to look at accommodation options

My DD has accepted and is really excited. We’ve looked up the ones on the website and also found  this morning:

It would be good to know where other first years will be and anywhere to avoid etc…

    Hi all,

Just seeking some thoughts from fellow dance parents...

DC has accepted a place at NBS and as a matter of courtesy wrote a couple of very nice, carefully written  "thanks very much, I'm honoured for the offer but I'm going to decline on this occasion" emails, which we felt kind of needed to be done in our particular circumstances (one school had offered to fund some of the course and from another school the head phoned us one day to ask why we'd turned it down! 😬)

Both schools responded with.... let's say 'snotty' at the very least (but actually unpleasant would be more accurate description) emails back. Obviously we won't respond further, but it got me firstly worrying that we'd done the wrong thing by being what seemed to be polite enough to reply to them, and then about any bridges that might have been burned by DC choosing a school that isn't theirs in terms of work later on (both schools are linked to companies).

Anyone else had any experience of this? Surely all schools get offers declined?!

My daughter has just declined Northern and had a really lovely email reply, wishing her all the best etc.. I found myself slightly concerned at writing the email as they had been so generous to her.. but thankfully a good response.

Does anyone know why central made phone calls? The hoards of us in the dark with no phone call are all feeling a bit crap!

Sorry. I don’t know. I was surprised to receive a call and assumed everyone else would have one too. My dd heard via friends/ Snapchat etc ( maybe not a reliable source ) that they are making more calls on Monday. Yes- tricky situation…

  6. Does anyone have any experience of this dance school in Marseilles please? I am interested in how the standard compares to Tring/ CSB etc... for 16/17 year olds and any other info. Thank you. L’Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Danse de Marseille

Hi, we’ve just received a ‘waiting list’ email from Central for my DD. I was wondering if this is a standard response for all who aren’t invited to finals? Thanks

We just phoned them- finals are not happening- my DD has a place on wait list also for Sept. They’ve skipped finals and looked at video for both stages..
