    Good morning all,

Our child has recently been offered a place at WL in year 7. They want to go, but rather than go into this with eyes wide shut, we wanted to do some research and learn from the past experiences of others. Looks like we just missed the boat and a recent thread has been removed by the moderators for one reason or another. I am a member of many forums and have never in my life known for a thread to be deleted. Locked yes, but deleted? All the forum needs to do is state that any opinions shared on the forum are not of their own and are of the members. Forums are very useful source of impartial information and was hoping to learn here.

Can someone give us a little flavour as to what to expect please? How did they child cope with boarding? Was the school helpful in settling them in etc?

For £34k a year, the dorms are basic to say the least. The toilet in the dorms was covered in #%^* when we did a tour a few weeks and that’s when the school knew that  prospective parents were coming in. Any cleaners?

If the forum doesn’t allow discussion on RBS, which is shocking I’d this is the case, can someone just DM me please?

    Many thanks I’m advance.

    DD

You are more than welcome to DM me as my DC is currently in yr7 .

    Congratulations to your DC.

They have been having issues with the toilets in the dorms recently and they have been “flooding”🙈 but they have had plumbers in to fix them

  2. Awww huge congratulations to all the reserve list….I reckon there’s going to be a huge amount of movement on that list so don’t lose hope.

we haven’t had an email and the post man has been so I can’t help but wonder since DS couldn’t make the final due to having covid that they may have forgotten about him 🙈

Unless the emails are still coming through… that’s probably it.

  3. I must say as a parent of a DC in yr6 who has just been offered a yr7 place at WL , this thread has been very good to read for the reality of it but also fills me with dread and anxiety about accepting the place as it’s filled with worry about what the next 3 years could bring at the end of it .

I think it’s good to go into it with eyes wide open but it doesn’t feel like the joyous achievement that it should be knowing that it doesn’t mean a smooth ride all the way through to yr 11 and worry about the psychological affects of it all.
it feels a bit like taking a chance accepting the place in the hope that your DC “makes it” passed the next 3 years.

It was a ‘yes’ for my DS. We are naturally over the moon. Yesterday was a strange and overwhelming day as we processed the wonderful news whilst feeling genuine disappointment that friends along the way hadn’t got the results they wanted, but have all done immensely well to get finals not just at WL but at other vocational schools too.

Huge congratulations ❤️ We feel exactly the same….the build up to this has been immense for them all . It’s also tinged with a bit of sadness as we are going to miss DS immensely and I just know it’s going to be a huge adjustment for us all.

it’s also tinged with a bit of anxiety as there are so many posts on here that add anxiety into the mix so I can totally relate to the mix of emotions xx

Well done to all that applied, what a process it has been

Oh I’m so sorry. It really has been a gruelling process hasn’t it.

Oh that's such a shame about Tring. So you can't be considered for the funding now??? That seems a little harsh :-(. I think with regards to secondary schools, unless it's fee paying then  just accept it and then decline later if you are lucky enough to get another place. If it's fee paying, I have no idea 🙂

She said she will ask the panel to review his notes from the first audition to be considered now since they have no other date to see those who can’t attend.

Thanks, I’ll just go ahead and accept the place I think…

  7. Another 2 weeks sounds like torture (at least they said)🙈

We can’t go to the Tring MDS final tomorrow as we all have covid which is so disappointing as tomorrow is the only day they are doing it they had said after letting them know.

Also, what are you all doing about your “regular” secondary schools allocation….I have yet to fill out all the forms to accept DS place at our local school thinking we might know one way or another any day now results wise but as it’s going to take longer, are you all accepting their regular school place now?

Yes we were taken aback by that too! Could some just be auditioning for MAs maybe? Thank goodness that’s one  over 😴....

It was a lot this year , wasn’t it ? I’m also so relieved it’s over …but it sounds like they all had a great time.

I had no idea when applying for Tring that there were so few funding places so as we only have gone for WL or Tring , now I know there’s so few funded places at Tring , I have to accept the very real possibility that DS won’t get be going anywhere next year as we simply can’t afford the full paying offer from Tring 😰 xx

Just to further manage expectations, the results from the Yr8/9 and Yr10/11 audition that took place 24th-26th February haven’t come out yet.

Is that for finals or semi finals?
it sounds like we might be in for a long wait .

TBH, I can’t wait for tomorrow and Tuesday to be finished.

The girls were told yesterday they would be out within 2 weeks I believe. There is at least one girl who wasn’t able to attend so they need to wait and see her first anyway.

They said on the zoom this morning the same but that it might take a bit longer this year due to needing to see those that couldn’t make it in person xx

It's an odd one - I can't recall exactly what options I put on the application but the offer is:

Yes to a day place with waiting list for residential. We live 2.5 hours away so a day place is not an option. We were thinking of moving at one time so perhaps I ticked that box. Also offered an MDS audition on the 18th March and this is for assisted funding - residential.

The day place has thrown me a little 😃

    Congratulations ❤️
we have the same , an offer of a day place with invitation to the MDS final 😃

The day place threw me too as we too are 2.5 hours away but I suppose they offer that first perhaps until they know what funding places there will be 🤷‍♀️

Yes, we had a letter Saturday. we’ve been offered a place for year 8 with boarding but no MDS funding 😢.  Not sure if they’re offering any MDS for yr8 this year?

Oh I’m so sorry there isn’t a MDS place but it’s an achievement that she’s been offered a place.

    we haven’t received a letter yet….DS was on the 7th , hopefully tomorrow 🤞

DS says that they were called in 1 at a time and the others waited around outside the studio.

Does anyone know when we hear the results?

Were you sitting on the couches before waiting for the school tour ? I thought it might be you ….I came and sat down opposite you 👍

No idea on when to receive results 🤷‍♀️
