  1. Thank you for all your tips and suggestions!  :)

I noticed while researching on some of the places that many of them state that there are trains from London's King's Cross or maybe London Euston. The nearest railway station to where my friends and I will be staying is actually London Victoria. I'm wondering if it is fine if we take the train from London Victoria or do we have to say, take the tube to King's Cross before taking the train to wherever we are going?

Another question, I know there are one day tours organised by agencies to Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon but I do not know what the pace of these tour are like. My friends and I have so far planned to go to Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon on two separate days but I am wondering if it is possible to visit both in one day? We would prefer not to be rushing around, getting from one place to another.

  2. Anyone has suggestions on day trips from London my friends and I can take over the weekends? So far, I've thought of Oxford and Oxfordshire, Stratford-upon-Avon and Cotswold. Any tips about these few places would be useful too! (:

Also, anyone has tips on how many days we should set aside to spend in Scotland or in Wales? Day trips seem impossible for these places.

  3. I have bunions, and whenever I wear toe spacers in my soft ballet shoes or in my pointe shoes, my toes hurt and become numb instead. Plus my toe spacers don't seem wide enough to keep my big toes straight in the shoes. :/ So now I don't bother wearing, which I know is not very good for my bunions..

  4. With the Chelsea one you can just do a part of any day so a morning class one day or afternoon the next etc. Some people just do a few days in the week but not every day so it's really very flexible.

Ive for the timetable somewhere will look up the timings etc.

I am pretty sure there was an RAD one which is mainly in the evenings too.

Thanks LinMM! Btw, do you know how the Chelsea summer school ballet classes will be conducted?

I've seen the RAD one, it's worth considering too. (:

  5. Thank you all for your replies! :)

Hello, and welcome, sherazade. Since you mentioned South Kensington, I thought I'd mention that ENB (based by the Albert Hall) do adult ballet classes in the evenings, but I'm not sure whether it's any particular syllabus.  They might well have a term starting about the time you arrive.

Also, Pineapple in Covent Garden will be very easy to get to from South Ken - straight up the Piccadilly line - but again I don't know what sylllabus they cover.

Would the RAD themselves be able to point you in the right direction?

Best of luck, and I hope the summer school is good, too.  Is it at Imperial, since you mention South Ken?

alison, I checked out Pineapple but I think the timing of the classes will clash with my school timetable. Maybe I'll check again closer to the date when I know my school timetable. Same for ENB, as the website only has the spring term now.

I'm okay with not doing any syllabus. Something different I hope.  :)

Yes, it is at Imperial! :)  I hope it will be good too!

    Hi & welcome

The problem you are going to have is that most syllabus based children's dance schools will be winding down for the summer in July, stopping completely when our schools break up in mid July.

It's mostly non syllabus drop ins or non syllabus summer schools that will be running.

Thank you for letting me know about this, Picturesinthefirelight. The class I'm taking now doesn't stop for any breaks in the year except for public holidays or special occasions. As I told alison above, I don't mind taking non-syllabus classes. So long as I can keep dancing while in London..  :)

If you want to do a summer school there is The Chelsea Ballet summer school from the 4th to the 8th August at Pineapple studios .......the big one right at the top really nice studio.....you won't need a credit card either.
To book a place you send a cheque .......I think it's for £25 to an address inUK ......sorry will have to look up and get back later.....and then you can pay in cash or cheque once on the course.

The beauty of this course is you can do as much or as little as you want each day and just pay for the classes you do.....so no big set price!!
You do have to be at least 18 to do the course which I presume you are?

Each day consists of Pilates class, morning ballet class, Advanced pointe work class, afternoon ballet class(different teacher) beginners pointe work class and contemporary class. Each class costs £9 ......I think......will check.

There may be some classes on at the RAD headquarters in Battersea in London too.
Also both the Rambert and RAD are doing their own summer schools......but I don't how the payment system goes for these.
    Hope you find something!!

Hi, LinMM. The Chelsea Ballet summer school looks good, but I'll have to check my school timetable to see if it clashes, since the classes are in the day.

    I'm 20 so yeap I can attend if it doesn't clash. :)

    SUMMER INTENSIVE EXAMINATION SYLLABUS COURSE

    http://www.rad.org.uk/learn-to-dance/find-an-activity/summer-intensive-examination-syllabus-course

But it think you may not be here, it is happening at the end of August (26th)

You are right, lollylamb1, I won't be in London any more on that day.

sherezade, have a look at the official RAD website, they hold dance classes and courses at their headquarters in Battersea, London.

Although the summer term ends in mid-July, I'm sure if you contact them they will be able to let you know what is available when you are here.

Thank you for the suggestion, taxi4ballet. Maybe I should drop RAD an email or something :)

  6. Hello! This is my first post here.  :) I am from Singapore and I will be in London for a university summer school for 6 weeks starting 30 June this year. I am currently taking inter found classes once a week here in Singapore and I am afraid of forgetting my syllabus and of becoming off form after missing classes for 6 weeks. Does anyone know of any RAD inter found (drop-in?) class I can join for 6 weeks and which is near South Kensington or anywhere convenient to travel to from there? It doesn't have to be an adult class. I've been dancing with kids 8/9 years younger than me since I started ballet 2 years ago. I've tried searching on Google, but I can't seem to find any class I can join. :/

If there isn't any inter found classes I can join, my back up plan is to join adult open classes. I've already ambitiously planned to try out one class almost every single day in week at either Danceworks or Central School of Ballet. These two places seem quite convenient to travel to from where I will be staying (according to the TFL journey planner. LOL). I wish I can attend ballet workshops too when I am there. Would love to go for the ENB Coppelia on-stage workshop on 26 July, but I don't have a credit card so I can't sign up. :( We hardly have such workshops here in Singapore (or at least I haven't found any). Regardless, I am very excited to be able to go to London to take ballet classes! :D
