  1. Smirnova and chudin were just sensational last night. So glad I can see them do that all over again this evening.

I felt that obraztsova and krysanova, while technically brilliant, didn't understand balanchine. For me, shipulina came into her own last night. She really got the athleticism and sexiness of the choreography. Rubies wasn't great but she shone through it.

The absolute brilliance of the diamonds pdd brings out two things I'be been surprised by in the last couple of weeks.

Firstly, why so few consistent partnerships? S and C proved last night how that trust and common knowledge of a piece adds to it.

Obraztsova was constantly having to look and reach for lantratov - and no wonder consider how many different people they've each danced with.

Also, why so few consistent roles? Whether you liked her or not, smirnova owned that piece entirely.

Krysanova is dancing leads in every single one of the five ballets bolshoi have brought. Of course dancers have to learn a lot of roles but doesn't concentrating on a couple make it better for the audience? (Ditto the ever changing mix of soloists and solos though the swan lakes)

  2. Goodness, it genuinely feels like we saw different productions last night. Wish I had seen yours, I got do frustrated with the corps being at sixes at sevens and all the shoe squeaking.

There were so many sloppy details, even the vision arabesques between aurora and lilac were late / badly timed and then snatched.

Obraztsova was lovely (particularly in the final pdd I thought) but she had some pretty shaky moments. Zakharova was so technically strong and confident you could just sit back and enjoy, with EO it was all slightly on the edge.

Not helped by gudanov doing some truly terrible partnering...

Agreed shipulina made a great lilac fairy but did look oddly HUGE next to EO.

  3. “Masha Alexandrova was taken to hospital,” Director General of the Bolshoi Theatre Vladimir Urin told Itar-Tass. “Unfortunately, no ballet actor is safeguarded from such injuries. Masha Alexandrova had a very active creative season. Moreover, in June she participated in long guest performances in Australia, where she was the main heroine. Already in July she came to dance in London. I hope that British doctors will help our remarkable actress to go back to the homeland as soon as possible,” he said.

  4. I wondered whether volchkov was injured. There were just a few moments where he began to shine and then it slightly fell apart again.

Zakharova's odile was stunning; her odette also beautiful though lacking in vulnerability.

looking forward to the rest of the season - the company had such depth, with every single solo and the corps strong. But absolutely agree about the production. The first half an hour is a symphony in sludge brown.
