  1. My DD is already at Hammond and will be going into the 6th form this September.

If you want to pm me then I will be happy to pass on contact details to her or answer questions if parents have any.

That would be great thankyou :)

  2. I'm doing my istd jazz and modern both in the same session next month, and I have done two on the same day previously. Although never ballet and modern. It's much less nerve racking when you go in for the second time, and you feel much more at ease. Good luck to your dd for her exams :)

  3. forcing turnout is really bad for your knees. if you're a recreational dancer, you're better off to just work with what you've got.

I wouldn't say I'm a recreational dancer as I'm starting at vocational school in September but not looking to go down the ballet route in dance. Although I do see ballet as an importance as Im hoping to go down the contemporary route.

  4. Does anyone know if Hammond have preference of brand when it comes to pointe shoes? I was looking at some Gaynor Minden ones, however I've heard some vocational schools don't allow them. I don't want to buy them and waste money if they aren't allowed.

  5. Thanks spanner :) My teacher has told me that i often force my turn out and my knees aren't over my toes. I don't want to cause myself a knee injury in the future and so I think a dance physio would be a great idea.

  6. Are you ready?

    Leotard minimum 3 x £19 = £57

    Unitard minimum 2 x £30 = £60

    Pink tights minimum 6 x £8 = £48

    Tracksuit £40

    Classical tutu = £170

    Romantic tutu skirt = £40

Above all must be ordered through the school ( Total = £415 )

    plus

1 pair canvas split sole shoes = £9.95

2 pairs pointe shoes for start of term = £0 but once advice on correct fitting 10 (ten) pairs recommended approx £400

1 Bloch short wrap round skirt = £13.95

So it is actually more than £500.

Hopefully it will all last the 2-3 years! I knew there were going to be other costs but you don't think about it until the bill arrives on your doorstep.

There should be transparency so parents know exactly what costs are involved before committing to this adventure.

There are scholarships available for those on low income.

What school is your dd starting at encouraged?

  7. Hi everyone,

This September I am fortunate enough to be starting the sixth form at the hammond school and was wondering if anyone else on the forum is also starting. It would be great to get into contact with someone in the same position as myself :)
