  1. Chaperone- yes I plan to, unfortunately my next pair will be my last as stopping regular lessons when I go to university after my intermediate foundation exam :( May find a society when I get there but we will see how that goes

Thank you pastel, I will give it a go!

Yes that's a good point legseleven I don't have anything to lose, think I'll try glue/ hardener and vamp elastic, thank you :)

  2. I have strong flexible feet and last June I bought bloch serenade strong shoes. After trying Grishkos at the end of last year and not liking them I have returned to the serenades however with a medium shank as I personally felt as though the harder shank was unesesary.

Now I have a problem as although I love the serenades I realise that the strong shank really did help and the medium strength is not supportive enough. I've worn them for around 1.5 hours so the shoes are broken in, and my feet bend over too much for my liking. Although they look lovely, it makes me feel unstable when balancing on one leg especially since I pulled a ligament in my left foot last year so my confidence is low.

Does anyone have any tips for what I can do to my pointe shoes to help my feet stay in correct alignment? I've heard darning the tip can help is this true? I've also used wood hardener before but only on the box, would it work for the shank too?

    Thanks!

  3. I took a class last August at Broadway Dance Center and enjoyed it very much. Because it was a bigginer class, the teacher focused on a particular move; this time pas de bourree and the various ways to do it.

I found if very fun and interesting!

  4. Thanks Fiz! yes I've been looking for the past few months but unfortunately a lot of the images I find are of models or professionals and so I'm trying to see the perspective of the regular student. Also, I've herd that delivery can take 1-2 weeks or more although this is to US from their factory in Spain; I was thinking it may take less time since its within EU however again no one seems to have had any experience.

  5. Hi, it's my birthday next month and thought about asking for a Yumiko leotard however there doesn't seem to be much info or reviews from UK customers so I thought I would ask here if anyone has had any experience with ordering Yumikos? How long they take to arrive, the quality, whether they're worth it, or specific styles that are recommended?

I hope top visit the NYC boutique in late August, however wanted to have one for EYB this summer so will need to order soon if I want one in time.

    Many thanks!

  6. Thank you spanner. I see, I suppose that is the problem with such a well known busy shop. It's a shame as their choice is outstanding and they're definitely not doing it justice then! Does Tiffany still work at Bloch?

porthesia- are the fittings at her home? What is the fitting like? Yes, i've herd very good things about her but the Grishko only is the one thing that puts me off. I see she assures though that their range can accomodate almost any foot. A day in Brighton sounds nice to me!

  7. Has anyone been fitted at Dancia?? I like their large selection but noticed that they were not a certified Grishko fitter (they haven't attend one of their workshops), is that a worry?

I have a really good local fitter but she only stocks Bloch and Capezio which I don't really like; currently have Bloch Aspirations which are OK.

  8. I remember my dd saying that not only does a bun make her feel like she's properly ready to do ballet and feel like like a ballet dancer, she also said that a well placed bun in exactly the right position helps her to feel better balanced. I've known her redo buns several times in the past because it wasn't in quite the right place on her head!

I definitely agree! I really do not understand the girls who come to class trying to get a way with ponytails or plaits because they think it looks better. Without a bun I feel so untidy and also unbalanced which Is why I don't even like practising simple exercises e.g developpe at home; without a bun or leo I feel so out of place and unmotivated haha

  9. I second the false bun! As long as the colour matches they look great. I've seen one on Dance Direct however don't know the quality, and as balletbun said you could find them off eBay or if you wanted to try on different sizes/ colours a hair piece or wig shop is an option.

  10. It's when girls aspire to literally having a thigh gap when their feet are together.

Many of my friends want one, however what most girls don't realise is that it is largely determined by your bone structure, and anatomy of your pelvis/hips/thighs rather than weight. And also, many pictures they see of 'thigh gaps' are either edited or the gap is created by the person turning their feet inwards slightly. It's quite sad really and is very popular.

  11. Hi all, just wanted to give an update to anyone who reads this!

Just got back from the audition and I won a place in Swan Lake!! :D :D So happy, as it was not expected at all. Now, I have a few questions (sorry!) I hope someone can help me with!

Okay, so I forgot to include "pointe work" in my audition form when It asked which levels are being studied. Should I ring them to tell them I do pointe work before the casting? This leads me to my next question; when do they decide casting, at the audition? I think I may only have a very small role :/ I wish I could be a swan but I don't think it will be.

Also, which other roles in Swan Lake have pointe work other than the swans? I think I may be cast for character.

    Thank you!

  12. Thank you Spanner and Taxi4ballet!

@Spannerandpony that's good news as I often feel my musicality makes up for my technical mistakes, hopefully they will see how much I really do enjoy myself! I tend to get quite nervous and forget to breathe during exercises haha so i'm going to have to try and calm my nerves

  13. I know my question is not according to the topic, but I didn't want to be annoying creating another thread so I hope it's ok to ask it here- but can anyone tell me what the senior auditions are like? I see it's an age range and so i'm not expecting extremely complex allegros however I have herd that the auditions can be tricky. I'm a bit nervous as to being given very complicated exercises, does anyone have an example of what I might expect?
