  1. I went last night too. I was very proud of my boy who has just finished first year. It was lovely to see some of the pieces from the ballet central show again too.

If you are going today sit in the tiered seating as you can't see very well from the floor as it is level with the stage.

  2. When I asked my son who is a first year at central he said " but they're all different" .

From what I can tell they have ballet every morning after a warm up. They are in at 8.15 to warm up 4 days with a slightly later start on Thursday. They also have an hour and a half ballet class on Saturday morning.

They then have contemporary 3 x a week

    pas de deux x2 a week ,

    Once a week :

    allegro (boys ) pointe (girls

    ) rep boys or girls

    Spanish ( mixed)

    Singing boys or girls.

    Dance studies mixed

They are separate for ballet , mixed for contemporary

Finishing time is between 3.15 and 4.45 but he's doing AS English from 5 til 7 3 evenings a week other AS subjects are at other times eg Saturday pm.

Anything between half an hour and two hours for lunch.

    Hope that makes sense .

  3. I'm not suggesting anyone on here would know from first hand experience but does anyone know what sort of dancing would have been taught 100 years ago, in Infant schools in the uk? It is our centenary year and we though some country dancing type event would be fun in the summer.

    Sorry for the hijack!

We are currently spending some of our PE funding on a dance specialist to train both children and staff. All schools are sharing 150 million which is ring fenced for PE.

  4. For those interested in seeing the end of year performance of the lowry dance CAT it is being repeated on the 15th and 16th Jan at 8pm at the Lowry Salford. It is called the Space Inside and tickets are£10 from the lowry box office or online.

    http://www.thelowry.com/event/the-space-inside1

The performers are aged between 13 and 19 as some have returned just for this performance.

It was very well received in July.

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this but I know some people aren't aware of the CAT. Please could it be moved if this isn't correct. Thank you.

  5. My son did the overseas audition so it was a mixed group and they just did different splits right left and box. This was last year .HTH

He missed his original audition because of injury hence being with the overseas students when he is from Manchester!

  6. Has she had a look on the northwestdance site?

The Lowry Cat is also excellent. You have to be 12 to audition for the scheme but they do have a weekly class for younger children . Pm me if you want anymore info. I just live down the road from didsbury.

  7. Tulip, I know! Luckily I teach infants but I have to be careful which games I join in!

What year is your daughter in? My son is in 1st. He's just texted to say that he was given free tickets by a teacher to see the full dress rehearsal of don Quixote today so is currently sat in a box with another student at the ROH .Lucky boy!

  8. My son who is off to Central this weekend has has said that he has never once been teased for doing ballet or for doing dance. He went to the local comp here in Manchester which does have performing arts status and has a very mixed catchment. It makes me sad that boys in 2013 are being ridiculed or discouraged from whatever they want to do but it makes me realise how lucky my boys have been to attend school with such supportive teachers and fantastically supportive peers. I must let the school know!
