  1. emsloves2dance - the new minimum age for IF is 11. If your daughter is already 11 then she can take her IF in November. Grade 6 or 7 also have 11 as minumum age. My IF students range between 11 and 13 and then I spend a year preparing them for Inter and also teaching them Grade 7 (they take the Grade 7 exam that year). The following year they take Inter, when they are between 13 and 15. Occasionally a talented child will jump a year, so that they take Inter when they are 12. I have one student who passed Advanced 1 with Merit at 13. I would have preferred to hold her back a year, but it was either then or not at all, as I didn't have an Advanced group the following year. I'm not sure that it really matters what they do as long as they advance and widen their horizons with different styles and dance regularly.

    HI Dance*is*life

my post was in April 2012 wasn't sure if you had realised, she did Grade 5 that June, Inter foundation in the November and Grade 6 a couple of weeks ago so no problems with age for us she is progressing quite happily :)

  2. Hi my DD is a York Scholar (also aged 12) i have no idea how many spaces they have but they have 3 groups they are staggered but start around 12:30 to approx 4pm.  They do 2 classes either repertoire or contemporary then a normal ballet class hope this helps :)

  3. Hi ballet co...

We are getting ready to go to the theatre to see Birmingham Royal Ballet perform Aladdin ;) DD's first proper look out since becoming unwell last November... I am slightly nervous about it all going smoothly, getting parked and walking with crutches to the theatre and her having a long evening!!

I'm sure it will be worth it ;)

Sorry if i misunderstood your post spooky but i wasnt making assumptions as Dd received her letter and it clearly states there is a reserve list so maybe things have changed?

  6. DD attended MDS funding audition but unsuccessful...she is on the reserve list but there were 45 at finals and we were not told how many awards they had.

Does anyone know of anyone who has got MDS from reserve list in past years? Or how many go on to the reserve list? Thanks x

  7. Is it normal for pointe shoe fitters to give "lessons" and exercises? I have never heard of this before!!

    Hi Jellybeans

I think it may well be normal particularly if the fitter themselves has been a dancer.....where i take DD for her shoes the lady runs the shop through the day and teaches after school she was a dancer herself and from the very beginning has given DD exercises to work on and also checks previous pointe shoes, just by looking at DDs she could tell dd was not up on the box fully on one foot in comparison to the other it was only slight but had it not been pointed out dd may never have known, she has an excellent teacher however she herself had not noticed this although it was very very slight but it was there to see !!!! now that dd is aware of this she makes a concious effort to ensure she is fully over.......so i think it is very useful to have somebody spend the time....each fitting has taken approx 1 hour and it reassures me knowing that she is spending the time getting to know dd's feet but also that she offers advice and strengthening exercises although i realise that not all fitters will have been dancers so we are very lucky :)
