  1. Hello

I know this is an old topic and please redirect me to a better one if it turns out to be the case.

Has anyone ever heard of students joining Tring at Year 13 rather than Y12?

    Thank you

  2. Re: elmhurst, not sure actual numbers yet but DD said she was in the 'biggest group'...will get more detail I hope tonight.

I think at ENB spring course there were about 20 in a group.

My dd is regularly/normally  in classes that have over 20 dancers (in a small studio) but she is not at vocational school.

I have heard that Elmhurst has quite a few big groups and some have 20 all year round.

  3. Yes, I've heard about that. Just glad I haven't been in the room when Miss Rist has said it!

My DD was in one of this auditions and I was shocked to hear her saying that to me later, unfortunately I could not take her on that day, otherwise would have spoken to that woman.

    Could not send her there.

  4. I would tend to disagree bluebell ... when my dd was an MA she was also fortunate enough to be at a senior school which offered a vocational programme in dance, was also able to forfeit sport for dance and had lessons every night after school. Even so, she still wasn't doing anywhere near as much dance training as she is now that she is at vocational school. I certainly don't feel that she needs to supplement an already intense training schedule. Just my opinion.

I agree that at a vocational school they do a lot, but how many hours are spent a day on pure Ballet training?I know of a vocational school that has ballet classes only once each day and the rest of the day is taking over by other dance styles and academics.

  5. I've seen Brazilian ballet classes in Brazil before and observed a Russian ballet class in UK and IMO the English approach is too soft, but perhaps is because of the system we have in Uk.

I agree with Anjuli-Bai comments about corrections and this is certainly part of all lessons I've seen at Brazilian and Russian schools. One must be able to have hands on when teaching ballet.

My DD goes to a school and she complaints that teacher never holds anyone's leg, foot, etc in the position it should be. Occasionally an arm is corrected with the help of the teacher, but that's it.

    A very interesting topic.

  6. Thank you everyone for the replies.

I see on their website that they have a performance in April. I think I will take my DD to watch it. Anyone thinking of going?

If so we could exchange our thoughts on the forum after the performance, which from what I can gather from your replies It must be good.

    Bye for now.
