Artem - that is not a photo of the Golda Meir Performing Arts Centre in Tel Aviv, which is where the company is performing! That is a photo of a completely different building taken from the beach! The arts centre is far from the beach! Originally, there may have been an old opera house on the spot where your photo was taken, so I think it still might be called the opera or something, which is probably why you were misled! Here is a link to the real thing!

Anyway, I went to see the performance today at 13.00 of Up and Down and as usual it was fantastic! I don't care what the company performs, I just revel in the brilliant dancing - they are just amazing! And the choreography is always inventive and interesting. The house was completely full - I was so lucky to get a single returned ticket - and of course the company received a standing ovation! We are Eifman Groupies here!

Eifman Ballet of St. Petersburg Starts Its 39th Season

Eifman Ballet of St. Petersburg has opened the 39th season with the tour in Israel that took place from July 23 to 28. The Company presented at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center the ballets Up & Down (July 23, 24, and 25) and Rodin (July 26, 27, and 28). The production about the French sculptor was successfully performed in Tel Aviv two years ago. Up & Down, premiere of 2015, has never been presented in Israel.

On July 25, the principal dancers of the Company performed at the World Cup 2018 Preliminary Draw at the Konstaninovsky Palace of Saint Petersburg which brought together high-ranking guests from all over the world.

For the first time in the new season Eifman Ballet dancers will meet the St. Petersburg audience in the second half of August. On stage of the Alexandrinsky Theatre the Company will perform Beyond Sin (August 20), Requiem (August 21) and Onegin (August 22).

A month later the St. Petersburg dance lovers will see the art of Boris Eifman again.

On September 21 and 22, a new choreographic version of the ballet Red Giselle will be presented at the Alexandrinsky Theatre. Last season the reinterpretation of the legendary ballet about the tragic fate of the great Russian ballerina Olga Spessivtseva was enjoyed by the Austrian audience and critics: in April, the production was successfully performed at the Vienna Volksoper by the dancers of the Vienna State Ballet.

On September 26, Boris Eifman’s dancers will take part in Kremlin Gala “Ballet Stars of the XXI Century”. Traditionally, the event will gather dancers of the world’s leading ballet companies at the State Kremlin Palace.

On September 29 and 30, and also October 1, the Moscow premiere of the ballet Up & Down will take place at the Bolshoi Theatre as part of the International Chereshnevy Les Open-Art Festival. In October, a two-week tour in Germany and Austria is planned: the Company is going to visit Berlin, Dortmund, Bremen, Salzburg and other cities. German and Austrian spectators will watch the ballet Rodin.

In early November Eifman Ballet will go on a big tour in China with the ballet Anna Karenina. It will include performances in Beijing, Shanghai, Macao, and in other major cultural centers of the country. The tour will last until the end of November. It is going be the longest Chinese tour of the Company in its 39-year history.

Eifman Ballet will spend the first half of December in Turin – one of the recognized Italian centers of centers of musical life – to present the program of the Christmas ballet season. It includes famous productions such as Anna Karenina and Onegin. The dancers will be performing on stage of the famous Teatro Regio, accompanied by a local orchestra. David Levi will be at the conductor’s desk. He is known for his work in the leading opera houses of Europe. He has repeatedly worked with the Boris Eifman’s Company.

In mid-December, Eifman Ballet and the Boris Eifman Dance Academy will participate in the IV Saint Petersburg International Cultural Forum. As part of the “Ballet and Dance” section, hosted by the choreographer, there will be a performance of Eifman Ballet’s production and a panel “The Classical Heritage – Museum or Theatre?”.

In January 2016 in Saint Petersburg, the Company will be shooting a screen version of the ballet Up & Down, the last season’s premiere. February will be marked with a tour in Athens. In the first half of the month the capital of Greece will see for the first time the ballet Beyond Sin. The performances of the production based on the immortal novel The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky will be part of the Cross Year of Greece and Russia’s program.

In late February, the famous ballet Tchaikovsky, created by Boris Eifman in 1993, will be brought back to the stage. Citizens of Saint Petersburg will be first to see a new version.

A three-week tour in Spain is planned for March. Eifman Ballet will bring Rodin to Madrid, Bilbao, and other cities.

In late March, the Company will bring a new version of Red Giselle to Minsk. And in the mid-April, it will travel to Istanbul with Anna Karenina. At the end of spring, Eifman Ballet will tour around Russia.

In June, the highlight of the Company’s creative life will be a tour around European capitals, which will include Bratislava, Budapest, Belgrade, and Vienna.

Also note that the postproduction of the film version of Beyond Sin is to be completed in 2015-2016.

The 39th season will be crowned with a premiere of a new version of The Seagull – another landmark ballet by Boris Eifman. It has been familiar to spectators from many countries and missing from the Company’s repertoire for the last few years. The renewed and reinvented production will be presented in Saint Petersburg on July 22 – the Boris Eifman’s 70th birthday.
