Bunhead99 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Hi, My dd just got selected waiting list? Anyone know what that means? 1
pastel Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 bunhead99 - it means that you will probably not have an answer until very close to the date. If someone pulls out, you'll be offered a place. I don't think many decline, so it is usually due to injury or illness.
Bunhead99 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 It says they will contact me in March so maybe its after the initial acceptance of places! Think she should be proud to achieve that after such a high demand for places
Balletmumfor2 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Selected waiting list is a reserve waiting list. If anyone doesn't accept their place or pulls out for injury or other reason you will be notified. My youngest got her place from this & older dd was offered a chance to do a second week a few days before the start. You may be asked whether you wish to remain on the list until it starts. Many will turn waiting list down as they commit to an alternative ss instead.
dancingmum123 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Well done to everyone and sorry to those who didn't...we're still waiting did the notifications come out by email or letter? 1
Direction_of_your_dreams Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Sorry to hear of No's. My dd has got 'Priority Waiting List' for Covent Garden, a very nicely worded let down, apparently 1600 applicants and only 350 places so big congratulations to those with a yes. Hopefully she won't be too upset, or read too much into it given she is auditioning for upper school next week. Knew it was a gamble applying but was worth a try! Best of luck to everyone else, fab forum, lots of great info and support to us poor parents 6
dancingmum123 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 My DD has applied for the WL summer school she's in yr5 JA not sure if anyone's heard back yet about places..On mobile so only getting notifications can't read back on thread... 1
macnatt Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 DD has received a place on selected waiting list... We had no idea that even the summer school was this competitive... 350 chosen from 1600. We will just wait and see now I guess. Luckily we have a few other options up our sleeve as well which don't conflict (date wise) with this one so we can wait it out and if an offer presents then accept it later on. Good luck to anyone still waiting to hear! 1
dramascientist Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Wow when I read this I cant believe 6 years ago DD got a place at WL SS. We were completely oblivious to the competition and just applied. Now I see how lucky she was! 3
Dreamy11 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Sorry to sound daft but is Covent garden summer scho the same thing as the White lodge summer school? Has anyone's dd been offered a place there? Thanks 1
celb Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Delighted to report a yes for my DD for Covent Garden SS. The acceptances have to be in by Feb 13th so I expect those on waiting list will not hear anything further until after this date.Don't give up hope if you are on the waiting list places do come up.The first time my DD went to WL summer school age 10 we heard on the preceding Tuesday. It is not always due to illness or injury - that year some lucky children had been chosen to dance with the Bolshoi at the Royal Opera house and had to withdraw from summer school. Good luck to all those still waiting to hear. 13
abitwornout Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Jumping for joy ! Just had email to say dd has got a place on WL summer school. Cannot wait to see her face when she gets back from school. Good Luck everyone x 14
threeleftfeet Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Congratulations abitwornout! she'll be one happy girl!! Â i'm waiting on WL for dd and haven't heard so presume we'll be in the no list . I wish they'd contact everyone at the same time!
irishballetmom Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Priority Waiting List for us for White Lodge, we got a straight no last year so I am proud of her for even achieving the wait list! 7
abitwornout Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 thank you Twiglet and pastel .I have my fingers crossed for your dd Twiglet x hang in there irishballetmom I hope a place comes available xÂ
MumToTu Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 A selected waiting list for my dd (year 5) for WL summer school. We've accepted the place on the list Congratulations to all the yes emails out there !! 2
Haggis Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 350 for the Covent Garden Summer School...surely that must mean the class sizes are huge!!! Is it worth doing then? Â Could someone who has experience of the Covent Garden SS tell me how big the class sizes are please. Â 1
Moneypenny Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 I think 350 places includes both WL and Covent Garden.
Tulip Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Hi haggis my daughter did Covent garden last year and I don't think the classes were huge. Top of my head about 25 possibly, I will have to ask her. No more than other summer schools that she has done before. It was very well organised and the teaching was excellent. There were only about 5 UK students in her age group. Covent Garden studios are big, airy and beautiful. 1
1santang Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 First time we have ever applied. Received an email today to say my DD is on the Priority wait list for White Lodge. Whats the difference between Priority and Selected? Does anybody know what the chances are of getting a spot if you are on Priority. Any advice would be much appreciated. 1
threeleftfeet Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 I know I'm ranting because I'm still waiting for the inevitable no email,  but why oh why aren't RBS more open about their procedures? Why does it not say on their website what the difference between priority and selected is? This is the 21st Century for goodness sake. They seem to shroud themselves in mystery. 2
Dreamy11 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 (edited) Priority waiting list for my dd, wondering how many are on this list? Also what is the difference between priority and selected which some people have? Edited January 30, 2015 by balletqueen
HAIRBELLES Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 (edited) I don't want to disappoint anyone but my dd has been on the waiting list, including this year , 4 times and we have never had the "Royal Summons" although I do know one girl personally and Tulips dd who did get a last minute place. It used to be called Short Wait List , so who knows maybe priority are above selected , I do know I won't be booking our summer holiday around it or holding my breath on the 18th July. Well done to all those with a yes and to everyone else good luck and there's always next year Edited January 30, 2015 by HAIRBELLES 5
pastel Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Feeling for you hairbelles. Â I have to say that even though dd is terribly disappointed because she will be too old to apply next year, I'm relieved that she didn't get offered the waiting list. It would just be torturous for her. At least we are free to make other plans. Â Best of luck to those still waiting. 2
sarahw Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Remember there are lots of fabulous summer schools without an application fee and many of these do not select. 2
HAIRBELLES Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Thanks Pastel I think we are going for the record of waiting lists for Royal. She was waiting list for MAs too so that's 5 in total !! That's a shame for your dd but so many other good courses , there is just something that feels so special where Royal is concerned especially when it's just out of reach
Miracle Posted January 30, 2015 Author Posted January 30, 2015 3 years ago my DD got 'Directors Selected waiting list' which was different again and my DS got a yes. X 1
angel Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 My DD has had SWL three years in a row.  This year it's Priority wait list.  Not sure if that's a move up or down  My older DD had SWL 6 years ago and got a place three days before the course started. She won a commendation and got into school the next audition.  I am a great believer in fate and what will be will be.  Have given up feeling either excited or disappointed.   Royal Ballet School Summer school is a great place to attend but younger DD has had the opportunity to try other courses and has had a much wider range of experiences than her sister.  This is something that Christopher Powney was very keen to instil upon the White Lodge and Upper school parents at a recent PTA meeting. 7
Dreamy11 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Does anyone know the difference between selected and priority waiting list please?
Ballet4life Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Priority waiting list for my DD at WL ???? proud of her! Anyone know how many get on the Priority waiting list and do girls really ever turn down a place?! 1
