Miracle Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 We received a nicely worded email from the Royal Ballet yesterday late afternoon inviting parents to audition their child for Summer School. It came from the Summer School email address not Auditions. Has anyone else received one yesterday afternoon? Not sure why we have one.X
Tulip Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Yes we did, however my daughter is now 18 so will be too old.
Lifeafterballet Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 We got one too ! We only ever applied once and that was 3 years ago ! Strange !
Miracle Posted November 22, 2014 Author Posted November 22, 2014 I wondered if it was those that were auditioning that had got one but clearly not as you've had one Tulip. Equally we haven't applied for 3 years. Never had a email or letter before. DD got Directors Waiting list last time. Very curious now. X
Happymum Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 I did received invitation email as well. My thinking is: - not as many children applied this year as usual so they are simply looking for more applicants?
Anon2 Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 New director? Showing any interest in some European schools and I have found I am on their mailing list. Invited to showcases, end of year shows, apply to summer schools etc. If RBS doing same might make finding out info about their master classes and wotkshops easier.
angel Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 The marketing has been stepped up massively this year. Their website and facebook is updated much more now. I had the email twice (because I have two DD's) three days apart. I even rang to check they'd had our application. 1
Tulip Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Hate saying this but we pay when we apply for SS, therefore a lot of money to be made the more people that apply. 4
Vonrothbart Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Too true Tulip, but I suppose it is a business after all. It's just like the final auditions for WL for instance, apart from year 7 they must have some idea whether someone is to be assessed out or not, but they still let children audition (at a cost) knowing it's almost certain no places are available.
amber21 Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 I have a feeling it's a blanket email that is going out and every email address is being included. It's the first year that applications for all courses have been available on line and being able to pay through PayPal. This will save money on postage and banking. Ax
taxi4ballet Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 We've had it twice, several days apart. This year, we've decided not to bother applying again to save a few quid!
sarahw Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 I think the fact that so few UK students get in whereas their main comparator in the UK - Elmhurst - don't charge to apply and take lots of home students may be effecting the application rate. 1
Vonrothbart Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Â We've received an email for the past two years, I thought that was the norm.
taxi4ballet Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 I shall buy lottery tickets with the money saved by not applying this year! 7
irishballetmom Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 We got two emails in the last few weeks... We tried last year with no success and will try another time this year but don't hold out much hope! She loves her ballet and has limited opportunities here in the west of Ireland so we figure there is no harm trying as she does have the right "look" and facility according to teacher! Not sure if we will try a third time next year though!
Balletdancer22 Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Yes still £20.00 to apply for a place .
southerndancemum Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Not looked into summer schools yet. It's not Christmas yet lol maybe I need to get more organised :/ Â What age does the RBS SS cover?
balletdancer5299 Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 (edited) Irishballetmum have you thought of the Northern Ireland Summer Ballet School. It's organised by the R.A.D. teachers in N Ireland and held in August every year. They have guest teachers from the Royal Ballet School and Central. For the last 4-5 years Kenny Burke ( Who was the director of The Royal Scottish Ballet for a number of years ) Giving master classes through out the week.  With a very talented line up of painists they cover classical ballet, repertoire, character, contempory, creative dance and group performance with a show on the last day that is always fabulous. My DD who has attended a number of summer schools and is 14 and at voc. school always really enjoys it.    Places are limited and do fill up very quickly. . Tutucute24 Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Hi balletdancer5299 Would you have the contact details for the northern ireland ballet summer school please -have a dancing sister who may be interested Thanks
irishballetmom Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 I didn't know about the Northern Ireland summer school! I really am still new to all this so have tried just Royal last year on her teachers recommendation. Will look into it for this summer as the Royal is just one of those dream ones she would love but not very realistic.
swanprincess Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 That online application form is a bit of a hassle isn't it?!!! I got to the last section, the Internet connection started being silly and I had to refresh the page so I don't know whether the details I had already filled in were deleted or not :S I've sent RBS an email to confirm that the application was okay, I'm going to be rather miffed if they say they've not recieved it but payment has already been taken from my account....
abitwornout Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Had an email yesterday to say due to the number of applicants we will now be notified by the 30th January if dd is successful or not. Will keep my fingers crossed for a bit longer. 1
angel Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 The beginning of that email was worded like the waiting list letter we had last three years! Had that 'oh well' feeling and then read on….keep waiting?  Â
taxi4ballet Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 They do like to keep people in limbo don't they? 1
Vonrothbart Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 I suppose they are in the comfort zone, with the monopoly they have. No fault of their own mind, as everyone seems to put RBS as the pinnacle.
angel Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 My DD did ENB Summer school last year. Â The standard was incredible!
Dreamy11 Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Any news on the summer school yet? Are people reading into it we will find out on jan 30 th or that will be latest we get to know? Thanks
wildflowers Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 I read it as we will hear after 30 Jan....that's the funny thing about emails, we can all interpret them different ways!
Direction_of_your_dreams Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 I read it as we will hear after 30 Jan....that's the funny thing about emails, we can all interpret them different ways!j  Just read email again "by 30 jan" so I guess anytime in next 2 weeks!! Apologies, I have not added anything useful to this thread at all! Lol! 2
Piccolo Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Aren't RBS in the middle of auditions at the moment? I wonder if they'll manage to have SS results out by the end of Jan too? Maybe all offers will be considered together?...
