alison
Didn't they do it previously, then?
Bruce Wall
In a word, and given a long-standing tradition, no. You came to see the company as a whole. End of story. Until now that is. :-) Perhaps this is one of the first changes with the upcoming Milipied regime. A good one methinks. stucha
It is not that the casting was never announced but only close to the beginning of the run of each ballet, which as Bruce suggests, made booking in advance or subscribing to see favourite dancers impossible. Anyway, regardless of casting, there always seem to be changes closer to the event. It is a welcome change though and it will be interesting to see what else is in store under the new regime. stucha
I should add that I am referring to the practice of announcing ballet casting in recent years when the Paris Opera website came on line. Prior to that I don't know.
MAB
It will actually make the Paris trip cheaper, as Eurostar tickets get dearer the closer you book to date of travel and as mentioned casting was previously announced nearer the day. This is a very welcome change.
alison
Ah, I hadn't realised that. It was just that, on my occasional visits to Dansomanie, I noticed dancers' farewell performances being announced well in advance, so I'd assumed it was the same for all casting. A frog
I seem to remember that casting would appear at some point before the start of the run, rarely that early though, anyway thank you very much as I had forgotten tickets were going on sale. Also potentially of interest, the ticket prices now vary depending on the day of the week.
stucha
Dancers' farewell performances were generally known earlier as the dancer in question would be aware of the date and then either put it on their website or tweet it
