The Architect – Kenneth Tindall announces latest work for Northern Ballet’s Mixed Programme in Leeds

Northern Ballet’s Premier Dancer and up and coming British choreographer, Kenneth Tindall, has announced his latest work for the Leeds-based company. The Architect will première in Leeds at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre as part of Northern Ballet’s Mixed Programme from 18 – 21 June.

The Architect is Kenneth Tindall’s third commission for Northern Ballet. It follows on from the award-winning Project #1, his 2012 choreographic debut for the Company, and the critically acclaimed Luminous Junc·ture which was first performed in Leeds in 2013 and will have its London Première at the Royal Opera House’s Linbury Studio Theatre in May.

Taking inspiration from the story of Adam & Eve, The Architect will feature sets and costumes designed by Christopher Giles who has previously collaborated with Northern Ballet on Hamlet and Cleopatra, and lighting by Alastair West.

Kenneth Tindall said: “My inspiration for The Architect comes from the foundations of the story of Adam and Eve. I wanted to explore the figure of Adam as one of the many prototypes for mankind and to see, with the introduction of Eve, how their story will unfold.”

Kenneth Tindall first began choreographing in 2011 following a Northern Ballet Choreographic Workshop and since then his work has been performed internationally. His debut Project #1, which later won the Production Prize at the 26th International Choreographic Competition in Hanover in 2012, was performed as part of Northern Ballet’s 2012 triple bill Perpetual Motion. His recent projects include Signature 30/31, created for Ballet Central’s 30th Anniversary tour which was voted one of the ‘Picks of the Festival’ at the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe. He has also collaborated with artist Linder Sterling on The Ultimate Form, a major new performance piece which premièred in 2013 at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris and was later performed at The Hepworth Wakefield and Tate St Ives.
