I think you should speak to your teacher.

 

The background should be a blank wall - not cluttered.  Be careful of shadows and lighting.  Also, you need someone to check your alignment and position.

 

Wear something with clean lines and simple.  Tidy hair - tidy shoes..

I've always taken the photos in the dance studio with DDs teacher directing my DD and checking the shots.  Its easier to know you are getting it right and easier to make sure you have enough distance to not cut off ends of fingers or toes as a blank wall in the home does not always have enough space.  I always gave her teacher a list of positions needed so we could run quickly through them and I echo the advice of tidy shoes and hair and a leotard with clean simple lines.  Good luck.
