Jazzpaws
DD's ballet teacher has asked her if she would like to take part in the Phyllis Bedells Bursary, which would be lovely BUT annoyingly it's on the same day as finals for RBS ! Anyone else in the same position ? I'm not presuming she'll get to the finals at all, but if she does it's £72 wasted, which I can do without losing. I have wondered if she could do both, but it starts at 1pm in Battersea, so she would have to be there earlier I would think - probably much too tight. Does anyone know what time the finals finish?
Lildancer96
My dd did bedells last year and registration was 8:30 in the morning. We finished at about 6 - it was a long day but a great experience.
taxi4ballet
Oh what a nuisance - fancy them picking that day (Especially when the bursary is awarded so that the winner can spend the money on training)!
Jazzpaws
Thanks Lildancer96 - well, no way they can both be done in the same day. What a shame !
Jazzpaws
The closing date isn't until 28th, so if she doesn't get RBS finals, there may be time to enter. Bad planning isn't it !
Lildancer96
Perhaps bedells won't be such a long day this year as last year it also included performances of winning solos from genee challenge. You should check with the RAD - they should be able to give you more information.
JulieW
I think this has happened before, and it's daft planning as they often have WLers doing PB. Certainly leave it to the last minute to enter and then maybe ask the RAD if they would refund the entry fee of she got finals.
balletla
I think this has happened before, and it's daft planning as they often have WLers doing PB. Not anymore. RBS has stopped doing RAD altogether so no more PB (or Genee) entries for them. Oh well - at least it gives everyone else a chance as I think it has been won by someone from RBS for all the years it has been going! My DD did it last year and loved it, but I found it slightly unsatisfactory in that there was just the one prize awarded - no runner up and not even any commendations. I thought the winner was fabulous but there were a couple of others who definitely deserved a mention.
JulieW
Oh yes, of course, I'd forgotten that Ribbons. I've always thought it was an odd one with just one prize - I suppose that's why they often give a joint prize
Jazzpaws
Wishing all the candidates good luck for this afternoon, wish DD and I could be there - especially a certain non vocational young lady doing the Diamond Fairy variation - her first time dancing in a tutu !!!
JulieW
Was anyone there today and could report back? I see Gay Avis has tweeted the winner's name - Rebecca Mabin.
