His latest production Tabac Rouge is a vibrant tribute to dance and theatre that sees Thiérrée’s Compagnie du Hanneton return to London for the first time in five years. For Tabac Rouge Thiérrée’s style shifts towards dance whilst still retaining traces of his origins in contemporary circus and his theatrical creativity. The imposing sets create a dark and ominous environment and a world in which mystery, mirrors, music and movement combine to catapult audiences into the unfathomable logic of dreams. Tabac Rouge sees Thiérrée perform on stage alongside 10 Company dancers.Thiérrée is acknowledged as one of the world’s greatest and most creative contemporary circus performers, conjuring worlds of endless invention and fantasy and inviting imaginations to soar. He made his stage debut aged four in 1978, appearing alongside his older sister, Aurélia Thierrée in Le Cirque Imaginaire, run by their parents Victoria Chaplin and Jean-Baptiste Thierrée. Thiérrée toured with the circus throughout his childhood and teenage years. In 1998 he formed Compagnie du Hanneton, an informal international ensemble that includes both circus and dance artists. His recent productions include La Veillée des Abysses (2005), Au Revoir Parapluie (2007) and Raoul (2009).A Sadler’s Wells Co-production with Crying Out LoudThe Monument Trust supports co-productions and new commissions at Sadler's Wells
Ellie
I saw his 'Raoul' a few months ago. I really didn't think it would be my cup of tea, but am very happy to say I thoroughly enjoyed the performance.
