Guest Autumn days
we have just had a letter about the Tring audition for 6th form and it says that some students are interviewed. I have already asked this about another school but wonder if there is any anecdotal evidence to suggest that it is only those that they are interested in that they interview? Has anyone been offered a place/funding final in previous years who was not interviewed? Also, does it REALLY matter if you don't sing/play an instrument at 6th form level? Has anyone been offered a place/funding final if they have not done any of the optional things? thanks for all your help in this awful process!!
Lildancer96
Hello - my dd never sang or played an instrument . She also was not interviewed or sent to physio but was given a funded place. So don't read too much into anything Edited November 27, 2013 by Lildancer96
dramascientist
Ahh I don't remember it saying anything about an interview in DDs letter I will have to have another look at home this evening!
Its her Life
My dd was offered a funded place on Tring's sixth form dance course, but never played a musical instrument or sang at any of her auditions. If my memory serves me correctly, I think the interview part took place as part of the solos. I think the girls just answered a few brief questions either before or after they'd performed their solo. Nothing too formal. My dd also got kept back for physio assessment at the second Dada audition. Some did, some didn't.
Anna C
Apologies if I have missed this elsewhere, but is it still the case at Tring that you audition for the 6th form dance course, and then get streamed into Classical or Non Classical at a later date? Or have they now introduced an option to audition only for the Classical set?
taxi4ballet
I'm not absolutely sure if my memory serves me correctly, but on the last day of the CBA course last year we had a talk from Miss Rist and I think she said that everyone on the dance course will do a common 1st year at 6th form, and they will then specialise after that... If anyone else was there and remembers exactly what she said then please can you help with this query
Guesty
Yes...they all complete the same first year foundation course then choose ( with guidance ) to specialise in classical, jazz or contemporary for 2nd and 3rd years. My dd is on the classical course now and loving it. Great place!
Anna C
Ah, "choosing with guidance" sounds better than being streamed with no input, which was what was concerning me. :-)
afab
It depends how strong the guidance is though!
Lildancer96
Hi spanner - yes this is new - choice with guidance. When my dd started last year only a couple were put into classical. Perhaps they were putting people off applying who were scared of being pushed down a route that wasn't their preference ?

Amethyst
How many hours a week of ballet do they have in the foundation year? In the second and third year if they are in the classical set do they still do a bit of either contemporary or jazz ?
Lildancer96
No sure about hours of ballet in foundation year as straight into classical set but someone else on here may be able to help you. Yes they still do a couple of jazz and contemporary lessons a week on the classical course .
