Picturesinthefirelight Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Got in st 7.50 as they stopped for tea en route - she was starving as apparently they were out late for lunch and not much left. (Although I don't think tuna wrap, salad & yoghurt is not much myself what's the girl want?) You'd have thought after such a long day shed rest for half an hour before bed. No. She practised her street dance & did some stretching. Hasn't done ballet today because of assembly - that starts tomorrow. Two classes plus tap. 4
angel Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 It must be lovely to get to hear all about her day. My DD said the street dance was difficult (she's never done it before). She'll be more in her comfort zone tomorrow with ballet. Just wondering what level they will start at? 1
JulieW Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Can you clarify what this is about and I'll update the title. I'm not good at remembering what everyone's doing :-)
Picturesinthefirelight Posted September 5, 2013 Author Posted September 5, 2013 Dd has done a bit of street dance but only in the last 12 months & it's def not her "thing". She said it was challenging. From the day dd started reception class she has been communicative! Other parents used to ask me what they'd done as all they got was "can't remember" whereas dd have me a complete running commentary. Sorry Julie. They started vocational school today but dd is a day pupil not a boarder. 1
Picturesinthefirelight Posted September 5, 2013 Author Posted September 5, 2013 It's RAD ballet tomorrow morming angel do I guess it's the vertical streaming they talked about on induction day. Then another ballet class in the Afternoon with the year 7 teacher
angel Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 I'm trying to work out if it's a good idea or not,( the vertical streaming) as the 'lower' class would be much smaller presumably?
Picturesinthefirelight Posted September 5, 2013 Author Posted September 5, 2013 I don't know. There seem to be 3 groups as far as I can tell from the timetable
Karen Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 If you can work it out, I would be pleased to know! Am not clear from what dd has told me tonight - except she will now get 2 street and 2 RAD classes a week and the new street teacher is fab!
Picturesinthefirelight Posted September 5, 2013 Author Posted September 5, 2013 I'm trying to work out what academic subject THSK & Fn are (& it's not French)
Nana Lily Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Thanks for the info, not heard a peep from my year 10 DD. Lovely to see some photos of other yeat groups on FB as I $ay imagine what my DD looked like today. Assuminhg no news is good news. 1
angel Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Hi Nana Lily, my year 7 rang very briefly but it sounded like they had lots of room sorting and organising to do. She said lots of girls are homesick tonight but after their late night I'm guessing most of that is down to being tired. I'm sure your DD is fine. She'll be settling into her dorm x
Nana Lily Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Thanks Angel, a brief text but no call so expect that all ia good, she is busy and enjoying herself! Lovely to see the photo of your lovely DD on FB this morning! Clearly happy and excited! xxx
angel Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Yes not the best photo but they did all look happy and excited...as they should be
Picturesinthefirelight Posted September 6, 2013 Author Posted September 6, 2013 Angel has your dd got Facebook? We're deciding whether to allow dd
Regattah Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Hi Nana Lily! My DD is the same dorm as yours - I don't know if you had realised? I've had barely a squeak from mine so far. I'm dying to hear what's happened with the reorganisation of the ballet!
Picturesinthefirelight Posted September 6, 2013 Author Posted September 6, 2013 All I know is that dd started inter foundation today & she's in the bottom group for tap with the beginners because on paper she hasn't got her Grade 2. (Teacher was retiring so decided not to enter anyone & did non syllabus work instead)
Regattah Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Don't worry, Pictures, I am sure that they will look at them all and do a shuffle if needed. It happened to my DD in the RAD class.
Picturesinthefirelight Posted September 6, 2013 Author Posted September 6, 2013 It's a term I first heard a few years ago in regards to normal schools It's where for certain classes (in this case the RAD vocational grades) children are grouped according to ability/grades already taken, rather than by year group
Nana Lily Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Hi Regattah! I now realise who your DD is! She must abbreiate her name at school? Haven't had a phone call yet, just two short text messages!
Nana Lily Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Hi Regattah! I now realise who your DD is! She must abbreviate her name at school? Haven't had a phone call yet, just two short text messages!
Regattah Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Yes she does! I've just spoken to her and I think you were also on the phone to your DD? You've now managed to make contact? I'm still really confused as to the way that ballet works now after the big change. She's sending me a picture of the time table, she's promised!
Nana Lily Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Yes I was!!!Looks like for RAD the year 10's are all in Advanced 1. Dont see any issues there....Main ballet classes are by year group
Picturesinthefirelight Posted September 6, 2013 Author Posted September 6, 2013 I guess it's not so confusing for us Year 7 parents as we don't know any difference.
Picturesinthefirelight Posted September 6, 2013 Author Posted September 6, 2013 Dd said there are Year 7, 8 & 9 in her Inter Foundation group & also in the Intermediate group. Then her other ballet classes are with all the other Year 7s
Nana Lily Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 That makes sense as they are verticle streaming by exam achievement. It's the same situation at Elmhurst during their Saturday RAD classes.
Regattah Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 They always had streaming for RAD but that was just on Saturday and all their weekday classes were by year group. Now they have changed it to more RAD through the week and I'm interested in how it's all going to work.
Nana Lily Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Thanks Regattah, didnt know the history, but Adv 1 is a big step from Intermediate, so two lessons a week rather than one will be very beneficial, especially as they miss out Advanced Foundation. 2
Picturesinthefirelight Posted September 6, 2013 Author Posted September 6, 2013 The Year 7 timetable is on my Facebook page. Each morning there is a 90 min ballet class (RAD is Thursday & Friday). Then Year 7 also have 3 further twilight ballet classes. Don't have Saturday timetable but dd thinks she has ballet & choreography tomorrow.
Karen Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Dd's interpretation is that RAD ballet (2 per week) is by grade regardless of year group and class ballet (not sure how many sessions) is in year groups. For tap, a smallish number of yr 8s and 9s ( not sure if any 7s) have been put in an exam group ( presumably inter foundation) and dd seemed to think there could be exams later this term for some who know the syllabus and March for those just starting). More is emerging each day! Think dd has ballet, street and choreography tomorrow morning.
