MargaretN7
The current cast of the Royal Opera Don Carlos is one of the best, possibly the best, one I've heard and seen.
Bruce Wall
Some true highlights available in the music here ... not perfect (the Eboli sounded rather stretched to me) ... and some of the production is rather absurd ... much SO MUCH to recommend it. Was glad I was there last night.
alison
Not to be picky , but isn't it Don Carlo, i.e. the Italian version? Thanks for the recommendation, Margaret, and I wish I hadn't missed out on booking it.
A frog
I haven't seen enough performances to be able to compare with anything else, but it is indeed hard to imagine a better team (if I could nitpick a little, I'd replace a couple of singers with some from the previous run)Alison: Anja Harteros just cancelled her performance tomorrow (and it is likely Sat will be the same), maybe there will be some returns. It would still be more than worth it for Kaufmann and Furlanetto.
alison
Thanks, A frog, but I've just done Zauberfloete tonight, and am not sure I could manage another opera this week. Edit: anyway, I did check, and there are no returns as yet. Funny, though, there wasn't a day queue forming when I left: there has been on several other occasions recently.
