Non auditioned/general summer schools

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Just to reassure some questions. Don't worry if your child has not had much experience in contemporary dance, there will be different levels in students at the course and everyone is there to learn. For me it is important students have had classical training and are ready to experience something new or develop in contemporary dance if they already have a good knowledge of it.

For bookings please contact our Education co-ordinator, Jennifer Teale and in terms of accommodation she will advise you on ideas.

Thanks

My daughter is doing Prague Masterclasses - no audition, but minimum requirements and photo required. We have one day off, then go to Florence for the Joffrey Ballet School summer program, also no audition.

We've never been to either so hope they are both worth the trek from Australia :)

My daughter (16) is also doing Prague for the first time :)

Our dance school puts on a week long summer school, with the end product being a show case at a local theatre.

We take everyone, and group them according to age and ability. We have teachers from all over come in and teach a routine and run a class, body works head of jazz teaches, one of the thriller cast, one of the billy elliot cast,ex northern ballet dancer, etc.

It's a great week and everyone really enjoys it, there's lots of variety and for those who want to go off to vocational school it's a good opportunity to work with top dancers and teachers.

Might be something other dance schools could look into? Especially since a lot of the non residential summer schools work out too expensive for parents

My DD really fancied the Watkin Dance Summer School; she had even arranged accommodation for herself

And then she realised while it didn't clash with school or any of her lessons the Sunday is her next exam date - she is kicking herself and very glad she realised before she booked it :(

She is a very keen (self-taught) African dancer and so rarely does 'African' dance turn up in more traditional classes so she is absolutely gutted!

www.invitationtodance.org.uk This summer school is non-audition and still accepting applicants. It is based at ISTD2 on Old Street, London. 3/4 classes per day in classical ballet, group repertoire, solo repertoire, contemporary, creative workshops and a ballet rep workshop with Rochard Ramsay (ex-Royal Ballet). It's taking place the weeke of July 29 - Aug 2. Message me for more details.

The northern contemporary one is aimed at 12 to 20 year olds and is only £100 for the week so is a bargian in terms of summer schools! However it is non residential. I believe dancers are split into age and ability groups

Hi all, there are still some places on the summer intensive hosted by MIDAS at MAC in Birmingham. Daily ballet and body conditioning with other sessions in rep, jazz, contemporary, dancer health (including nutrition, warm-up/cool-down), anatomy, music theory/appreciation and performance psychology. A week of hard work to get you ready for the new term!

Swindon Dance have a good summer school open to anyone age 14+ - there are three levels which are essentially beginner, intermediate and advanced, with the advanced classes attracting a lot of professional dancers as well as students at vocational colleges/conservatoires. From 19th - 23rd of August, it includes daily classes in ballet, contemporary, jazz and pilates, as well as performances projects.
