Lemongirl
Dd is dancing at a festival this week and after song her first dance today we found the stage to be so slippery, almost all the girls nearly slipped over on stage. Dd was disappointed and felt she didn't dance well at all as she was so worried about slipping. She has further dances to do this week, does anyone have any tips to prevent slipping? She did spray her shoes with hairspray but it didn't seem to help.
Spax
Water if on point. Just put a drizzle on the floor and dip toes in quickly acouple of times.
choccy
Hi Lemongirl, If your DD is doing a Tap Dance at the Festival then would recommend " Resin". This can be bought from your Local dance shops. Generally, I think the Adjudicator's tend to appreciate that the stage can be slippery at different venue's and will take this into account when marking. Good Luck for the Festival! x
Lemongirl
No she's not doing tap or en pointe, just normal ballet shoes for ballet and character.
Balletmumfor2
Our teacher gets us to spray water onto the leather soles of the ballet flats to stop them slipping. Or you could step in the rosin used by those on pointe. Put a bit on the floor and step on it to coat the soles. Good luck! Xxx
Anjuli_Bai
Rosin does help but too much rosin can actually make your slippers more slippery. Water is good - until it dries. It also helps to take a knife and CAREFULLY scrore the bottom of the shoe. Dipping the heel and toe in a cola drink also helps. A lot also depends upon what the stage floor is made of and what kind of treatment (polish, etc.) it has had.
Klaris
You can buy a special wire brush, we got one really cheap from ballet teacher. Then use it to scrape the bottom of the ballet shoes to create a rough surface, which does help with slipping. You can use it as often as you need to and it just slips inside a small ballet shoe sized bag.
drdance
Full sugar coke is good, or water. Rosin is a no-no especially for tap! Ballet it could help but a build up on the shoes makes it worse.
