ninamargaret
Would have been good if the Radio Times had printed a picture of one of the current casts for Manon. And also if they could have got their facts right about the occasion of Macmillan's death. Still, let's be grateful for a few crumbs of dance among the endless rubbish that we get given.

jmhopton
Just to repeat the thread I just posted under Sergei Polunin in case anyone didn't see it there his 'Documentary Portrait' Dancer is being shown this Saturday on BBC2 11pm-12.20 am. Thought it good to add to this thread anyway as there is so little to put on it, alas, it is in danger of getting lost!

A wonderful programme - thank you Darcey Bussell and all participants, those with dementia and Parkinson's, Sliver Swans, and young people struggling with such cruel mental illnesses. A remarkable tribute to dance and its health and life enhancing powers and those gifted facilitators who use dance so effectively to help people discover themselves, their memories and hidden strengths. Do please take time to watch.
cavycapers
I found myself welling up a few times. Very worthwhile programme, and well done DB. I thought she was genuinely moved at times, and the decision to leave in the remark from one of the dementia sufferers, when she said, and I paraphrase, You used to be a ballet dancer, not that silly come dancing stuff, was a brave one. Sim
I caught a trailer on BBC 4 about a Christmas programme called "The Sound of Movie Musicals" and there was a very brief view of Steven McRae tapping in a studio. Not sure how much involvement he has. One to watch for me as I love the musicals....the old ones, at least!!

This was the first in a series of fascinating documentaries about the history of music and dance in films.

I have hugely enjoyed the first two episodes of this well-made series (last one coming up on Friday). McRae can certainly tap dance but it struck me that his style is quite a long way from what Astaire did (never mind his use of what looked like heavy off-the-peg shoes) so I would be interested to hear from someone who knows about the history of tap. Are the differences a function, for example, of where one learns, or from whom, or the era, or simply personal style?

Geoff
This BBC4 film about circus (available on IPlayer for another fortnight) has a sequence with Gandini juggling: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0001jfn The relevance for the Forum is that Gandini - who I first became aware of as the best part of the recent ENO production of Akhnaten - collaborate with choreographers. From the lively and enjoyable snatches of work shown in this film, there are a couple of current RB choreographers who could usefully benefit from considering joining this trend. Jan McNulty
I've seen Gandini a couple of times. 4x4 was a ballet-themed piece and Sigma was an Indian-dance-themed piece. Both have been enormously entertaining, individual and inventive.
