The company auditions every year. The number of dancers has reduced and it's possible more may be leaving. It's interesting that they are recruiting at soloist level as well.
Farawaydancer Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 It’s often a condition of some specific funding that companies hold auditions every year, whether they have actual positions available or not. 2

I do agree that the YouTube thing is weird. Wonder if YouTube (now a money-making company) has been enlisted as a sponsor/source of finance and this is one of the things the company has to do in return. If so, the company should be transparent about it. If it isn't, it sounds dubious, when other dance companies and dance schools don't do this. YouTube is no guarantee of video clarity or picture quality. With regard the rest, ditto. Maybe more dancers have given notice.
Swanwings Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Audition videos are often requested to be done via Youtube and sometimes Vimeo; its uploaded as a private video and sent via link (its therefore not available for public viewing). This avoids trying to send massive video files. I've done this myself and the quality is fine as long as the filming is good. Its all free of charge. 1 1

glowlight Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 2 minutes ago, Sophoife said: "they can afford more dancers but not live music?" There is often a lot of movement in company dancers at the end of the year, so it may be that they are looking to replace people who will be leaving. Or, as @Farawaydancer says - it may be a condition of their funding. I suspect that they've specified YouTube for consistency - so they don't get videos via platforms they can't access or as file attachments that they would need to download (bringing risk of virus). I think it's great that companies now use video screening, which can avoid a lot of wasted expense for candidates auditioning internationally 2
meadowblythe Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Shame they don't watch them all though! Personal knowledge of dancers rejected but the video was unwatched. 1
Pas de Quatre Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 They possibly consider still photos as the first round, and then only take some through to the second round i.e. watching the video. 1
