RBS Audition Insight Classes

Doing Dance 1

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen the online audition insight classes, but over the years had several pupils do the live ones, and I sometimes went to observe just to make sure there weren't any great changes.  The message I took away was that it was to make the dancers familiar with the place and the organisation of lines etc. Straight forward barre in number order, line up in centre across the room also in number order in front of the members of the jury sitting at the table. Usually six to a row, e.g. numbers 1-6, then 7-12 etc.  Each line is seen in turn for basic  posture and flexibility. I was told that in the preliminary audition the juror marks the pupil immediately in front of them, not any of the others.

The class then continues with age appropriate steps, on the spot and travelling diagonally from the corner, galops, turning skips and more difficult combinations for older dancers. Younger pupils should be ready for some improvisation e.g. pretend you are a mermaid, or piece of seaweed attached to a rock and the sea swirls around you.

Sorry I'm not answering your question as I'm just a parent. I was wondering how similar to an actual audition these are and whether you could watch it more than once once you've purchased it. Thank you!

I’ve purchased a few and they are available for multiple viewing.
The teacher explained the audition process of poses, barre, stretches then centre etc and that content is an example of what to expect.

Thank you, this is all helpful to prepare my daughter!

I was at an insight day today and the head of the associate programme said that the audition process will be similar as she was concerned children may be too fixed on what is in the video and not responsive to the actual teacher or will just practise what's in the video ('this wasn't in the video I watched')

All good points I think to bear in mind
