Wasn't sure whether to put this in Doing Dance or News but presumably it will come in more useful to those actually dancing!

RBS have announced that they are selling on costumes (those passed down from the RB and BRB companies as well as those made just for RBS student performances) that they no longer use. There will also be costume accessories/parts like cummerbunds and tiaras for sale.

For students/parents/amateur dancers who need to acquire tutus, men's costumes or similar professional quality made costumes for competitions or other performances without the high costs of buying them newly made, this may be an ideal opportunity to make a good investment/saving/both.

Sale starts at 10am this Saturday at the Upper School of the Royal Ballet School on Floral Street, Covent Garden, London.

No ticket or advance booking - just turn up. RBS official announcement below:

I'm not sure what the price ranges are, @MissEmily, as it is rare for RBS to sell their costumes (they have not had a costume sale for over 13 years, they said) and prices might depend on what is available, how old the costume is and how elaborate it is. I expect some items will be in the two digit range and some in three digits. If anyone is likely to need a good quality costume for performances or competitions that cannot be loaned by a school, it is worth going in person to have a look and to try on before buying. (Provided they don't live so far away from RBS that the travel costs would be far more than any potential savings!)

If this helps: I was at the ROH costume sale last weekend. I did not buy anything since it was mostly opera and nothing fitted me, but the price range there was very reasonable and reflected the quality, in my opinion. I will be there this Saturday too - I am not a (professional) dancer but am always fascinated by the construction of those costumes!
