alison
I imagine there will be a press release about this coming out, but in the meantime: https://www.enbswanlakecinema.com/? Swan Lake in-the-round In cinemas from 30 Oct Derek Deane’s sublime Swan Lake in-the-round will be screened in cinemas this Autumn. The stunning film, shot live at the Royal Albert Hall during our most recent performances in June 2024, will take to the very heart of our classic production. Enjoy the splendour of Swan Lake on a grand scale, like never before. Get close to the drama as Odette (Sangeun Lee) and Prince Siegfried (Gareth Haw) fall in love and fight against the evil Rothbart (James Streeter). Feel awe with never-seen-before aerial views from right above the stage – showcasing the beautiful patterns of the sixty swan maidens. Don’t miss the chance to see this cinematic event – from 30 October at a cinema near you. Tickets will go on sale later this month. 1
Beryl H
This sounds good, I don't like ballet at the RAH, but on a flat screen everyone gets the same view.
Emeralds
I got this email too- Sangeun and Gareth were wonderful in it in June! And James Streeter always portrays a reliably evil and sinister Rothbart. If we're very lucky, they hopefully filmed when elegant Alison McWhinney was dancing in it (Act 1 pas de douze, Swan Maiden, prospective bride) along with Emily Suzuki, Ken Saruhashi, Lorenzo Trossello, Daniel McCormick and Erik Woolhouse, who all shone in the supporting roles. A pity they didn't release it in August - I had a voucher for my nearest cinema that does these ballet relays for August! 😀
Emeralds
15 hours ago, Emeralds said: along with Emily Suzuki, Ken Saruhashi, Lorenzo Trossello.... Correction: "along with Emily Suzuki, Ken Saruhashi, Rentaro Nakaaki, Daniel McCormick, Erik Woolhouse..." (I got the Spanish Dances mixed up- Lorenzo danced it at the Coliseum but it was Rentaro who danced it at RAH). Peanut68
Aerial views will be interesting! I always imagined the main relevance for doing an ‘in the round’ production was for it to be all about patterns….I recall images of watching old Buzby Barclay (?) Musical Hollywood films on afternoon TV when off sick from school…. I adored the patterns & filming from above & often utilising mirrors etc to great effect….like watching a life size Kaleidoscope being turned! I think seeing this filmed will be a new experience beyond actually seeing it live (which I didn’t get to do sadly)
