Lisa O`Brien
Is anyone else finding it difficult to sign out of the Forum? I click on Sign Out,as usual. Yet the next time I go on to the site to sign in, I find out I am already signed in,and my username , thequays , is at the bottom of the page. Maybe I`m doing something wrong but I don`t know that I`m doing anything different to what I always do. Thanks,Lisa.
balletla
Yes! I'm having the same problem. I thought it was just my age and I kept forgetting to sign out or wasn't clicking the button properly
John Mallinson
By jove you're right! I've just found the same thing too. I think it's something to do with cookies in that if I log out, then clear the BalletcoForum cookies from my browser (Safari in my case) and restart the browser, I stay logged out. Which browsers are you using? I'll report this to the software folks.
John Mallinson
I've just checked with Firefox (on the Mac) and didn't find the same problem.
John Mallinson
Problem now fixed by a little software update. Please let us know in this bit of the forum if you notice any other funny behaviour.
Ian Macmillan
John: During this week's Links stint, I've noticed what must be another change. On completion of posting on the Forum, pushing the Hashtag button to bring up the posting entry number in the URL now reveals a new, narrow window saying "Share Post #whatever," and this contains the URL for the post in question, plus various icons underneath. I've been highlighting for copy/paste to Twitter, but I rather suspect the Twitter icon might do that in some more direct way.
John Mallinson
Yes, I noticed that too with all those options for sharing with the wider world. Not sure it's that useful for the today's links tweeting however.
Lisa O`Brien
Yes.! I`ve just left the site for 10 minutes, and I had to sign in as normal.
balletla
I was using Safari on the Mac but the problem seems to have righted itself.
alison
Well, I found the site logged me out this morning - my settings are to be permanently logged in here. Again, only on this laptop, not my work PC, though. Weird. I was assuming there was a software update a couple of days ago, because the site's way of dealing with quoting earlier posts has changed. balletla
Seems I spoke too soon. I have just come on the site and found that I am logged on and I know I definitely logged off yesterday!
John Mallinson
Ribbons, please keep us updated on that. No such problem here.
swe
Hi I am using Safari on Mac and I too can't log out. I even went to the 'block all cookies' and am still signed in!
John Mallinson
People have previously reported that they could sign out but that if they quit their browser, then relaunched it, they would find themselves signed in again. That problem was supposed to have been fixed. Is it like that or a different behaviour?
John Mallinson
Blimey! I've just tried that manoeuvre and it happens to me with Safari on a Mac (but not with Firefox). I hadn't noticed this behaviour before as I don't usually sign out. If I delete the BalletcoForum cookies before quitting Safari and restarting that doesn't happen. I'll file a bug report. LinMM
Not quite the same question but I haven't officially signed out yet since I joined the Forum.....does this matter in any way....I mean is it a good idea to sign out each time. I never think about cookies and wouldn't know how to block them etc! I have never been on a forum until this one and don't twitter etc so may not be up on things that I should, thanks
John Mallinson
It's obviously important to sign out if you are using a shared or public computer but otherwise I don't see any reason to.
Anjuli_Bai
Sometimes I have the opposite problem - though I accept cookies and do the "remember me" check - on some days I have to re-sign in every time even tho I don't ever sign out.
LinMM
Thanks John Mallinson....it's just me and the iPad to which I seem to be symbiotically joined at the moment....so guess its alright not to sign out every time. I suppose on thinking about it I ought to do every so often though or I'll probably forget my password!!
swe
Morning John For a few weeks the problem of not being able to sign out was rectified but I am back in the same position again-unable to sign out..any thoughts?
John Mallinson
Which browser are you using? I assume you've tried deleting cookies. I have no new answers but the forum software will be updated in the next few days and that may make a difference. Let's see.
John Mallinson
The board software has now been updated and I've no longer got the re-login problem with Safari i.e. if I log out, quit the browser, reload the browser and site, I'm still logged out. porthesia
I have noticed over the last few days that although I am signing out every time, whenever I come back to the forums I am logged back in again. Not a problem for me but thought you should be aware. Laura (aka Porthesia)
Lisa O`Brien
This has been going on for me for months. People must think I am on this forum 24/7 or something. I am NEVER able to log out.
Melody
I had that problem a while ago on a Xenforo forum. I eventually managed to log out in a different browser, and after a day or two IE got the message and logged me out too. John Mallinson
I've just merged the recent topic and the older discussion of this problem. I assumed it had been fixed as we've heard nothing for a while. I certainly haven't had the problem myself, though I did back then last year. I found that deleting cookies seemed to help. Have you tried that?
John Mallinson
Could anyone who has this problem please let me know by PM (or post here) the precise details i.e. browser; Windows or Mac or tablet/phone; whether 'Remember me' is checked when you go to sign in; whether deleting cookies helps or not; anything else you can think of. Thanks. Last year's problems were supposed to have been fixed. (Looking through the support blogs one unfortunate user complained that every time she logged out and in her sex got changed to male!) porthesia
Sorry, never thought to delete cookies. I'm normally quite religious about deleting on a regular basis but I must have let it slip. Can now sign out,
John Mallinson
Glad that worked - hope it doesn't recur.
Jacqueline
I am having this problem over signing out only to find I am back in again. I am using a tablet now if that makes any difference, never had this with my old laptop. I pressed the link for deleting cookies but my tablet doesn't want to play. I gather it doesn't really matter if I don't sign out as this is not a shared device, but I would still like to be able to do so. Any help/advice gratefully received. John Mallinson
Just found the same thing with my iPad using Safari, but if I log out (which I never normally do), quit Safari and then clear cookies, I'm not logged on when I restart Safari. Seems to me this may be a specific browser problem as Firefox stays quit when you tell it to.
Jacqueline
Thanks for your reply. My old laptop was on Firefox and no problem signing out. I will just have stay signed in I guess.
