New ROH Music Director - Jakub Hrůša

The Royal Opera House today announces the appointment of Jakub Hrůša as Music Director of The Royal Opera. Hrůša will assume the position of Music Director Designate with immediate effect and will begin his tenure as Music Director in September 2025.

 

In the 2024/25 Season, Hrůša and Pappano will share House responsibilities, and both will appear as special guest conductors across the ROH Season.

I don't think his is a name I'd heard mentioned as being in the frame, and I haven't seen him conduct. Does anyone have any thoughts?

 

It will be interesting to see where the repertoire goes.

I don't remember associating him with opera before, so no idea what he's like.  I wonder if there will be more detail in Radio 3's In Tune this afternoon?

 

The significant period of overlap between the two conductors ought to be good.
