Yorkshire Ballet Seminars (YBS) 2023

Hello!

 

My student is applying for the Yorkshire Ballet Seminars Summer Residential this year. She is attending the scholarship audition in November. Can anyone tell me from last year how long the results took to come out? I ask because if she gets a YBS scholarship, she won't apply for the RBS Summer Intensive, but the deadline for RBS applications is 19th December...

The results the next day, I think, last year (certainly for at least one of the centres). However, this was just for the scholarship. If your student isn't offered a scholarship and they apply anyway, for a paid place, then those results will come out with the rest, which are probably around the end of March/beginning of April I think.

Hello. We did auditions last year on 6th Feb and received results on 14th. So if not the next day, not more than a couple of weeks. I think we were the earlier centre.

Yes, sorry, @SJBalletis correct. The results came on the Monday, but I got mixed up re: dates. They were 8 days after, not the day after! I just remember thinking they were super quick, as we’re conditioned to waiting months usually!!

They said December as they have 2 other dates of scholarships auditions following the one in Leeds on Sunday

All the auditions are over now. I wonder when we’ll hear? Did you see that nearly 300 children auditioned?! 😰 My (ex-) pupil found the class very hard in terms of content so doubt she was able to show herself in her best light and she’s not expecting anything.

How soon do you usually hear after all auditions are over from previous years? also if you don’t achieve a scholarship can you get offered a place still or is that a separate audition?

f you don't get a scholarship you fill in the normal application form and photos. That hasn't opened yet. I'm guessing it will do once they send out these results.

put together a last minute video audition as couldn’t make the s/ship auditions in person and have been offered a scholarship. 
Can anyone tell me are there proper dance studios with dance floors at the school where the summer intensive takes place?

It's at a school, and they bring in the flooring to lay

Can anyone tell me if the Yorkshire Ballet Seminars are the same as Yorkshire Ballet Summer School…….in other words has this been renamed since Marguerite Porter left or is it an entirely different thing?

Thankyou. The years I went it was held at York Uni and then I think one year at Askham Bryan College a few miles outside York….. the floors were certainly okay there! 

But I’ve never been to Ashville College where it is held now! Because they both begin with AS I thought might still be at the college in Askham so don’t know what the floors would be like in the new place. 
It would seem strange to me though to now have the summer school in a place they have to bring the floors in which is very expensive!! But perhaps that’s the case! 
Congratulations on your daughter getting a place it really is a very good summer school and quite a few from the RBS are usually there. The ones I’ve seen there are all doing well in the actually Royal Ballet Company now!! So it’s obviously highly regarded.
