Beryl H Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 I was checking a cinema booking and saw the film of Carlos Acosta's Don Q is showing on 26 October at 8pm. Sounds good, does anyone know the casting? 1 1
Jan McNulty Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 I wasn't even aware it had been filmed! Momoko Hirata and Mathias Dingman were first cast but who knows...

Jan McNulty Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 There doesn't seem to be anything about this on the BRB website!

Dawnstar Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 It looks like it will also be on TV https://www.bbc.com/mediacentre/2022/sunday-night-performance-bbc-arts (8th paragraph). Presumably this will be at some point after the cinema screening. 4 2
capybara Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 It's very exciting to see BRB 'centre stage' like this!!! 5
Mary Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 Seems to be showing at quite a few Picturehouses but not near me alas, but I might even travel to see it. excellent news, yes- thanks Beryl.
ElleC Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 It’s also being screened at Vue cinemas (with an encore screening on Sunday, 6th November which might help with your Coppelia clash, Jan). 1 1
Jan McNulty Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 Finally an announcement on the BRB website: https://www.brb.org.uk/post/don-quixote-cinema 2

Here’s my post from the Don Q thread at the time: Posted February 26 Last night’s BRB Don Quixote (Hirata/Dingman/Lawrence/Kurihara) was being filmed for future broadcast. I chatted to one of the cameramen who, it turns out, regularly films these kind of productions (ROH, NT etc). He couldn’t confirm where or when it might appear. It could be streamed directly by BRB or broadcast by SkyArts or the BBC. it was a delightfully sunny and joyous performance, improved and finessed immeasurably in so many subtle ways since I saw it in Southampton. 2
Jan McNulty Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 The poster shot at the end of the Instagram post fails to mention that the performance is danced by Birmingham Royal Ballet. Words fail me... https://www.instagram.com/p/CjAR6oUtRGx/
alison Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 I'd half forgotten about this, but it was given a mention on Radio 3's In Tune this evening. It's tomorrow, folks.
Jan McNulty Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 The BRB website has been updated and this is the latest link: https://www.brb.org.uk/stories/carlos-acostas-don-quixote-to-screen-in-uk-cinemas-from-26-october Some cinemas are also showing on Sunday 6th November. Sadly I can get to neither date. 1
alison Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 This appears to be Picturehouses' limited selection: https://www.picturehouses.com/movie-details/000/HO00012167/carlos-acosta-s-don-quixote I gave up with Odeon's new website - it's hopeless: https://www.odeon.co.uk/films/carlos-acostas-don-quixote/HO00003421/ Vue: https://www.myvue.com/event/carlos-acostas-don-quixote Everyman don't appear to have any showings
alison Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 Actually, use Janet's link: it's a lot better, even if it seems to be centred on London.
Pulcinella Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 Very limited screenings in Wales - one in Cardiff is all I can find. My nearest screening is over 60 miles away in Telford!
Mary Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 Thanks- shame the Picturehouse website went down this evening..I seem doomed in my attempts to see this after missing it at Sadlers, but won't give up.....
FionaM Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 Booked for Vue cinema in Bristol. My friend and I are in need of something fun and uplifting!
alison Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 Picturehouses: Crouch End, Ashford, Edinburgh, Norwich, Brighton, Bath, Oxford, Henley. Any of those any good?

My nearest screening is over 60 miles away in Telford! That's only 97km. My nearest cinema for ROH/POB/La Scala/anything else is 340km (about 212 miles) each way. And I don't live in Outback Australia, just on the major Melbourne-Sydney highway.
alison Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 I hope someone will report back. If it had been on locally I'd gladly have gone, but I couldn't face dragging into central London.
FionaM Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 Any ideas where I can get the full cast list? 1
Peanut68 Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 Has anyone had any luck actually fondly g a cinema screening this? On the search I can’t find anywhere for the supposed Nov 6th Encore….

I've tried near me and the Vue cinemas at Southport, Cleveleys Altrincham and Bolton are showing it at 3pm Nov 6th, though not Preston. I searched under Carlos Acosta's Don Quixote on the BRB website. It defaults to Westminster screenings but just cross that out and substitute your area.

If what was shown had gone beyond Kitri, Basilio and Don Quixote (i.e. told us who was performing Espada and Mercedes, at the very least), it might have made the difference between me trailing up to London or not. I'm still disappointed that, while there were a few screenings in South-West and North London, there was nothing at all in my neck of the woods, despite the fact that I would normally have the choice of at least half-a-dozen possible cinemas for live relays

I tried this but still no luck….. maybe nothing south of the midlands??? Do they think BRB equals Midlands & North & RB London & South???? Crazy if so….
