Aschenbrödl Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 François Alu is no longer being cast as Rudolph. Is he injured?

Aschenbrödl Posted September 17, 2022 Author Posted September 17, 2022 Wow! His own projects are more important? That would be logical if he was a guest. But étoile? 1
San Perregrino Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 perhaps the role doesn't suit him at present. it can happen. with 4 advertised Rudolphes and 17 performances, that is an average of 4 shows per Rudolphe which ought to allow each dancer to grow and evolve the part during the run. an exciting prospect. the current POB trailer features Steven McRae & Sarah Lamb (?) and the Gallery photos are from the RB 2018 production. Nothing from the POB production as yet.... 1

But étoile? his personal projects would have likely been commitments made (legal and financial contracts etc) before he was promoted. I am assuming he was not cast when the original run were planned in May 2020 which was then cancelled by Covid. If that was the case he’ll also not have benefit of prior rehearsals that others did. I’ve no doubt he’d be brilliant in the role. Such a shame.

Such a shame. when i posted on 5th August on the ROH Autumn thread, Alu was among the dancers advertised by POB to play Rudolphe. it would seem strange for POB to list him if it knew he wasn't available: "Paris Opera Ballet have cast the following to dance Rudolf: François Alu Stéphane Bullion Mathieu Ganio Hugo Marchand Paul Marque" 1
FionaM Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 my info is from this post on Instagram story of ‘fa.actu’ INFORMATION MAYERLING Prince Rudolf: Stéphane Bullion Mathieu Ganio Hugo Marchand Paul Marque I informed you a few weeks ago, and it is confirmed. François was withdrawn from the distribution of Mayerling (ballet offered in October/November). -> As a reminder, it had been announced that this ballet would probably be done without him, his proposed show dates in the fall being his priority!
FionaM Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 Official casting https://www.operadeparis.fr/en/season-22-23/ballet/mayerling#distribution

Not being a social media hound, official websites are my first port of call for information. From which I conclude Alu was originally cast and has either withdrawn himself or has been withdrawn. I look forward to seeing at a future date when he is able to dance Rudolph. Edited September 18, 2022 by PeterS 1
Aschenbrödl Posted October 7, 2022 Author Posted October 7, 2022 Not sure if I should be posting this here. Casting has now been published for Mayerling at Paris Opera. I am very lucky to be able to see Hugo Marchand and Mathieu Gannio (if there are no changes). I would have loved to have been able to get to London to see any of the ROB Mayerling performances. 1

Lucky you. I'm disappointed with the cast I have (Ganio and Paglliero, Bullion and O'Neil). But I do quite like Bullion, a good actor, and I think he's retiring during this run so it will be good to see him one last time. Would have so loved to see Marchand in it.
Silver Capricorn Posted October 8, 2022 Posted October 8, 2022 I am really happy that this year I saw Mayerling in Stuttgart with Friedann Vogl, in October I will see Hugo Marchand in Paris and in November in London Vadim Muntagirov. This is how I dreamed it. As you can see, dreams sometimes come true. 4
Aschenbrödl Posted October 8, 2022 Author Posted October 8, 2022 I will be crossing my fingers for Marchand and Dorothée Gilbert. I live in Spain and only travel by train. Due to work commitments I can’t make it to London. Paris is very much my second choice. Much as I love Vadim, I don’t quite see him in this role, although I would definitely go to see him if I could. I would also love to see Marcelino. Again, not quite sure he is mature enough for this role, but I would grab a first row seat for sure if I could. I’ll be very interested to read reviews here on his performances.

If you haven’t done so already, you might like to to take a look at Vadim’s, Yasmine Naghdi’s and Isabella Gasparini’s Instagram accounts. 1

I'm sorry you're disappointed with your casts @SheilaC but I have to say, I would absolutely love to see both. 2
Josette Posted October 15, 2022 Posted October 15, 2022 I am vacationing to see all four Paris Opera Ballet casts, followed by Vadim M and Yasmine N, and then Ryo H with Melissa Hamilton in London. 6
