MumtoEm Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 My DD will be 18 when she starts a 3 year dance degree in September - is it recommended to take out medical insurance for her which would also cover physio? any advice would be very appreciated thanks

glowlight Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 Some schools insist that you do I believe. I had private health insurance through work which covered my daughter while she was at Northern Ballet School. We were glad of it. 1
Anna C Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 Definitely recommend maximum Physio cover with private insurance, @MumtoEm. Does the school have its own Physio onsite, or a Physio linked to the school? If so, it would be worth checking with your chosen Insurance provider that the Physio’s fees is in line with what the insurance company will pay. Also how many sessions per condition or per year. I would also make sure that you get cover for MRIs, CT scans and other potentially expensive diagnostic tests and scans. 2
Out-the-other-side Posted March 9, 2022 Posted March 9, 2022 We could not get private insurance that covered my dd using the school based physio! (This was for Elmhurst) We could have got physio cover, but only with their approved providers which would have meant trips to Birmingham city centre which would not have been practical. In the end, we opted out of that and made a private arrangement with the school physio to pay for sessions should she have needed it.
Peanut68 Posted March 9, 2022 Posted March 9, 2022 You would actually think ‘in house physio’ meant they were paid a salary & standard physio treatments for pupils were included as part of fees!!! I myself was at Elm a lifetime ago (Camberley days) & remember basic physio based in school with I think different year groups having set time slots to ‘drop in’ visit…. I suffered from shin splints & recall regular (ineffectual!) ultra sound treatments…. Am horrified at thought that my single parent Dad may well have had extra charges tk pay for this….am sure I’d have been told! So in house surely means inclusive in fees or at very least the basics would be covered by school promoted health insurance? Afterall, the on-site healthcare & physio provision is often part of the ‘selling features’ of these schools! Im pretty sure all the main vocational schools do offer healthcare policy & that it is also included free of charge to all MDS recipients at those schools offering MDS.
