Prix de Lausanne 2022

Recommended Posts

I am so happy for all the candidates to participate in the "real" Prix de Lausanne this year again. Last year's online competition felt so empty, even though I just watched it online. It had no spirit, imo. Kudos to Prix for keeping the competition alive of course, in these difficult C times. Today, I saw only happy faces allover the screen ( I sneaked in from work).

Wishing good luck to all of them. I already picked my favorites๐Ÿ˜€

Who else is watching?

Let's see, 404 and 406 ๐Ÿ˜‰. I was merely joking, barre and centre are important but the artist will be seen in the variations. BTW I miss a list of candidates by number, makes it a lot easier to figure out the candidates while watching.

I still havenโ€™t got round to it but will be watching. I tend to like watching the coaching bits nearer the end itโ€™s too difficult to tell from class work other than whoโ€™s more double jointed than who!!ย

Indeed. Can't wait for the variations. And that reply IS ridiculous, that always had it and have it of course.๐Ÿ‘€ย ย

I made my own list in number order, rather than alpha order โ€ฆ.let me know if you spot any errors. ย A quick cut and paste job, and sort into table format. ย With some double surnames and double first names, it became a bit manual (which is a recipe for errors)

Had a bit of a look today and spent ages trying to work out who the boy on extreme left front of barre when camera looking straight down the whole class!ย
You have to laugh as while I was trying to see what this boys number was the camera homed in on โ€œanotherโ€ ย boy and thought heโ€™s pretty good too so could see that number which was 404. Then towards end of class camera zoomed down on to the โ€œotherโ€ boy and it was the same one โ€ฆ.404. Beautiful feet and extensions but also ย has a certain look about him.ย
But itโ€™s really the variations I like to see ย and when being coached for thoseโ€ฆโ€ฆthat usually sorts โ€œthe men from the boysโ€ as they say.ย

Looking at some of the Contemporary classes canโ€™t honestly say Iโ€™ve been that interested in whatโ€™s been chosen so far.ย

Oh, wow!! I was watching the same boy and thinking he was really going to go places! Already so elegant with those beautiful legs and feet! A prince in the making, and so young yet!ย  I will never forget his number, as it is my house address! If anyone finds out the name of "404" can they please post it?

I think that 404 is Darrion Sellman.

But a number of names will have prominence tomorrow when the results are declared

Have just been watching the selection variations โ€ฆnot the finalists โ€ฆand there is a very nice dancer from the US whose name is Alina Taratorin I think that surname is correct) but when I look on the list of entrants for this year and their numbers she just isnโ€™t on it โ€ฆso a strange thing. A pity as canโ€™t go back and check on her in class as she is not listed.ย
I quite like the Turkish girl no 106 but looks very young. Havenโ€™t looked at the men yet but think 404, 406 and 412 will feature well.ย

Ugh stupid me although the Prix de Lausanne YouTube can be tricky if you are not watchful!! As the years can be mixed up a bit!!ย
Alina was in 2020 selections not 2022!ย
Id been watching the finalists variations ..defo 2022 โ€ฆand then decided wanted to go back so looked at some Coaching from Day Four and then saw Day five selections variations not noticing it wasnโ€™t 2022 ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Luckily only watched the first six but anyway very impressed with Alina and hope she is still dancing.ย

@LinMMย haha enjoy catching up... if you don't mind the slight spoilers, the PDL put a useful video up yesterday containing all the finalists' classical and contemporary variations. I've been watching as much as possible live including the prize giving earlier, but I'm not sure I ever made it through all the non-finalist Boys & Girls B variations. A project for some evening next week...

No big surprises in the prizes, I think, although my favourite didn't place as high as I expected. I guess that's where the "being judged on the whole week rather than just the variations" stuff comes in.

Iโ€™ve just looked at all the finalists variations again.ย
I think the dancer who seems really equal and brilliant in both classical and contemporary is the Japanese dancer Tsukino Tanaka ( she fell over in her Giselle variation but a delightful dancer) and very authoritative and dramatic in her contemporary though my overall favourite contemporary was Lucianaโ€™s.
Heewon Moon from S. Korea is another delightful classical dancer and thought the Australian Amy Ronnfeldt was very strong and assured in her classical piece. ย
I think the Turkish girl Yasemin Kayabay is one to watch it will be interesting to see what she does from here as well as Luciana.ย
All the dancers from US I thought were really good including of course Darrion Sellman a real little star in classical though of course the judges having a major problem trying to choose winners from this 20!!ย

Darrion Sellman was on my "winner list" from the beginning, Dorion Plasse as well. For all other finalists, it seemed to me very difficult to decide. I think their levels were very close to each other. I felt sorry for the Japanese dancers, I think some of them very really strong but then the nerves set in, one even fell onstage. I'm very pleased with the scholarships for Amy Ronnfeldt (AUS) and Maya Schonbrun (US), both very elegant and mature in their classical variations.ย

Again, like last year, I cannot follow the jury's decision giving the "Best Young Talent" award (or "for exceptional artistry") to a candidate. Sorry but for me, giving this prize is still connected to the HIGH level Shale Wagman set in 2018. Neither in 2021 nor today the recipient of this award met this level. Especially the contemporary piece "Desde Otello", danced by Dorion Plasse (scholarship No. 5 and Contemporary Dance Award) was WAYS better than M. Oliveira (good technique but quite hectic).ย

But well, the decision was not made in one day, I know.

Have now seen the prize presentation so the overall winner no surprise really!ย
Very pleased Yasemin got the Audience Prize and all others were well deserved.ย
Reading your comments about Shale Sabine I think every so many years you get an exceptional dancer who is genuinely as good a classical as contemporary dancerโ€ฆ.usually one form is stronger than the other โ€ฆfor example I think today Darrions classical was much stronger than his contemporary (although I didnโ€™t like the Wayne McGregor piece much anyway). But Shale was brilliant at both so particularly stood out in his year.ย

Amongst the older girls group B I thought Amy Ronnfeldt really shone with maturity and assurance onstage and seemed the most ready for a professional career. ย She could start tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜‰

ย

Of course many are younger and will be looking for further training before joining a company. ย

Exactly what I thought FionaE

Watching her I thought definitely Company ready! She just seemed to have that Professional edge.ย
Itโ€™s interesting that sheโ€™s taken part in the Prix at this point. It suggests that she may be looking out for work outside of Australia. So be interesting to see what she does.ย

@Sabine0308ย I believe the PdL may have deemed the young dancer award should go to one of the younger candidates from groups A after Shaleโ€™s multiple awards.ย

I just realized we had this topic in 2020 already ๐Ÿ˜€, here the comparison:
