POST RE BREACHES & BANNING - PLEASE READ

Recommended Posts

Hello members.  We have recently had reports of people abusing the DM facility.

Anyone who abuses this facility by sending rude, nasty or weird messages will be subject to an immediate ban from this forum.  Not only does it breach our AUP, but it is an unwanted and unwarranted invasion of someone's private space.

Likewise, if we are told that someone has not kept their side of a deal when buying/selling a ticket or any other item (e.g. when an item has been paid for and not sent to the buyer), they too will be subject to an immediate ban.

We are sorry to start the New Year with such a message, but we cannot continue to allow these things to go on without sanction.

Sorry, I'm not very good on abbreviations. What is the DM facility? Is it direct messaging and, if so, how does it differ from PMs? It took me ages to realise PM meant personal message. I always associate it with Prime Minister which didn't seem right!

Thanks for this. I still remember on the old Ballet Co UK forum receiving a couple of nasty PMs from someone who disagreed with something I’d said in a forum, but who was too cowardly to say it in the open forum of Ballet.Co. I’m sorry to read that people are still doing this.

PM and DM (direct message) are two ways of saying the same thing Joan.

Thanks Janet. Since I retired I can't seem to get my head round abbreviations. Sign of brain fatigue if not incipient dementia!

It's always horrible - and still, even in these times of trolling etc, somewhat shocking - to read of this type of behaviour. Personal attacks leave you feeling unsettled at best, all the way up to distressed or worse.

I had one once (not here!) and after the initial shock, my main thought was: why on earth would somebody do that in a PM? What purpose does it serve? I was able to delete it and move on, but for some people it might not be so easy. Horrible!
