This sumptuous ballet hasn’t been seen on stage since 2017, although it has enjoyed success with TV broadcast on Sky Arts and on demand via Digital Theatre. Tindall’s first full-length work, Casanova takes us into the heart and mind of one of the most notorious figures in history. Follow Casanova through his romantic and scholarly endeavours as he winds his way through the scandal and excess of 18thcentury high society. With a cinematic score by Kerry Muzzey and opulent sets and costumes by Christopher Oram, Casanova is a visual and sensual feast. Following its Leeds opening, the ballet will tour to Sheffield Lyceum Theatre, Sadler’s Wells, London and The Lowry, Salford between March and June. Northern Ballet dancers in The Great Gatsby. David Nixon OBE steps down from his role as Artistic Director of Northern Ballet at the end of 2021, but audiences will be able to continue enjoying his work as The Great Gatsby tours to Edinburgh Festival Theatre, Milton Keynes Theatre and Cardiff New Theatre between April and June 2022. Nothing brings back the heady days of the 1920s better than F. Scott Fitzgerald’s great American novel, and David Nixon OBE’s ballet perfectly evokes this glamorous and decadent era. The tragic story of Daisy and Gatsby plays out to its inevitable conclusion with Chanel inspired costumes and a score by the legendary Sir Richard Rodney Bennett CBE. Children’s ballet Pinocchio is choreographed by Northern Ballet Junior Soloist Gavin McCaig. This delightful production for young children re-tells the original story by Carlo Collodi, reminding us all that where there is love and honesty there is always magic. All Northern Ballet’s productions are accompanied by live music performed by Northern Ballet Sinfonia. For more information, on sale dates and booking details for performances until June 2022, see northernballet.com/whatson. More dates for Casanova and The Great Gatsby will be announced later in the year as part of Northern Ballet’s autumn 2022 tour.
