annamk Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 After the performance of Raymonda this evening, Olesya Novikova was promoted to Principal of the Mariinsky. The most deserving, outstanding ballerina - congratulations to her ! https://www.instagram.com/p/CQWvgDrDFFv/?utm_medium=copy_link 14
FionaM Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 The best news! So long overdue and well deserved. https://www.instagram.com/p/CQWxAZlIzrH/?utm_medium=copy_link
capybara Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 This is WONDERFUL! I first saw Olesya dancing in Cardiff many, many years ago , then in a mixed bill at Sadlers Wells and, lastly, as Giselle at the Coliseum. She is simply fantastic and, at last, her rank reflects her stardom.
Don Q Fan Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 Such a long overdue promotion really delighted at this news! Huge congratulations to Olesya Novikova!
Jeannette Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 наконец! совершенный! Olesya Novikova - forever my Raymonda for the ages, 10 years ago in Milan. Finally! Congratulations!!! 2
Bruce Wall Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 Not before its time - that's for sure ..... This promotion was far too long in the coming ... but wonderful that it FINALLY has. There is no question bit it has been well deserved FOR AGES. 1
Sabine0308 Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 Great news and is there a single reply which doesn't say "FINALLY"...saw her in La Sylphide along side Shale Wagman in 2019 and she was sooo etherical and gracious. Hope to see her perform again.❤❤ 1
capybara Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 I've now realised that it was 16 years ago that I saw Novikova as Kitri in Don Quixote in Cardiff and, of course, she also starred in the Mariinsky DVD of that ballet.
Sim Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 I just fail to understand how this has taken 20 years to happen! May Olesya now have a good few years of well-deserved Principaldom! Many congratulations to her. 7

Indeed, those the years when Somova was massively promoted. Many of us wondered why exquisite soloists like Obraztsova, Kondaurova & Novikova were unjustifiably held back. Sad years...but now we can declare that all named became principals eventually, even if Obraztsova had to leave for Moscow to achieve it. 5
Naomi M Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 May Nagahisa has been promoted to First Soloist at Mariinsly. https://www.instagram.com/p/CQaqVSMjnnS/?utm_medium=copy_link 4
Don Q Fan Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 Yes I was very pleased to see May Nagisha also promoted - I just hope they promote her to Principal quicker than the others who all had to wait so long (unlike Somova who's promotion I never did understand!) 2

Of course, the even younger Maria Khoreva has been a First Soloist for some time. 1
Ivy Lin Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 Novikova is married to Leonid Sarafanov who decamped to the Mikhailovsky. She also decided to take time off for three kids. I think those factors might have slowed down her promotion. 3
Amelia Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 (edited) CONGRATULATIONS TO THE HAPPY PARENTS!!! Olesya Novikova & Leonid Sarafanov became parents for the fourth time: https://yandex.ru/video/preview/16008196880714005114 Edited November 18, 2022 by Amelia changed the size of the script 8
