Hi all,

Haven't been on here for a while. My dd is applying for mid associates she had a yr of applying while she settled into high school.

She alsways has got on short waiting list but never lucky enough to get a place.

She will be applying for the last year of mids do people still get a place as i know there will be younger ones.

Also is the audition much different to the junior associates. Also is there a long wait til results.

Sorry for the questions my dd has asked me to ask as i don't know

Thank you in advance for any replies. :)

My friend got SWL for last year of MA's, she was grade 5 at the time. The audition is the same for MA, White Lodge and definitely 1st, if not 2nd, year SA's, and applicants for these courses may all be in the same audition class. Can pm you if you would like more info about what is actually required in the audition class :-)

HI Ballemum, my dd auditioned for the mids a while ago, the only down side was her splits, (they ask for all 3) she could do 1 split near enough but that must have affected her because she didnt get through she got on the short waiting list, and her dancing is amazing, (not to boast), her friend wasnt as technical was my dd but could do splits and manged to get through to the mids assoicates, if i were you, i would be pushing your daughter every morning and every night till she gets atleast 2/3 splits perfect. Good luck to your dd

I know we've discussed this at length on other threads but having or not having all 3 splits will not be a 'make' or 'break' for a dancer getting into a programme - it could be anything, could be shape of feet or legs, or the way in which a child dances. Sometimes schools will prefer to take a student who is 'rough around the edges' in terms of technique, but free of any affectations or style that can be easily trained to their method/style. I've known some very good (and flexible) dancers not get places at RBS associate schemes!

My daughter can do left splits but not side or right fully and she got onto year 6 RBS ja's. she is also only grade one and certainly isn't 'amazing' at ballet by any stretch of the imagination. She obviously has some potential though! I have no idea whether she'll get a mids place but don't think her splits (or lack of) will be the deciding factor. Good luck to all those auditioning in January!

It certainly isn't just about whether dancers can do splits or not. My dd is very flexible and can do all splits, but didn't get through.

Same!! Im very flexible too, but no Yr9 MA place or Yr10 SA place for me!! :( Interestingly, my friend (who has, in my opinion a very good physique- long legs, short torso/back etc) who could not get her left or box splits, got SWL for yr9 MA!! :)

HI,

sorry not been on here for a while, thanks for all your replies, she is stretching everyday and her teacher is being very supportive and giving her some extra lessons.

She has also just been put in for grade 6 and intermediate exams so will be dancing right up to audition. Just an hour each night. She will either be great for all the practise

or the one sleeping in the corner LOL.I suppose as she will be busy after the audition getting ready for the exams she won't be watching for the post, March is definately going

to be a busy month.

Good luck to all who are auditioning and may see some of you there. If anyone is going to London auditions pm me it would be nice to put a face to some of the names.

I wish everyone a merry christmas and a wonderful new year

No but did have an email from RBS asking if we would consider a place at Newcastle over Manchester. Just a general email which I imagine went to all the northern JA's. It's too far for us so just emailed back saying manchester only. But I guess it suggests they are looking at the places at the moment.

We have got a call back for Northern Associates though.

Nope not a thing we are waiting on Birmingham results..DD went for a year 9 place so we are not holding much hope...but even though we know the chances are slim..you still can't help having a glimmer of hope and waiting for the results is pure torture...i bet it will be next week before we hear...im sure last year it was the very last day of March we got our No letter

We were told not to tick it if we didn't want full time training as it wouldn't affect the mids places. Obviously a large majority may have been to finals as they are the kids who are off a standard needed but we were reassured that some that go to WL finals that don't get mids and some that don't go to finals that do! Despite the rumours! Fingers crossed!!
